help with c20xe

hi there,just put my nova redtop back together,and cant seem to get it to spark.

took the main ht lead of the coil,and put it on to an earth,and it didnt spark,messed about with it, then it sparked like mad,so put it back on distruator, wouldnt start,so checked again and no spark.

what could this be???faulty coil?
does the coil base have to be bolted to chassis to give it an earth?
i have had stripped the car right down,including looms etc

yes the coil needs to be bolted in

cheers mate,will try it tomorrow,i was holding it on a bit of clean metal on chassis but might not be good enough.

if thats doesnt work,what else could it be?

tried another coil tonight still no joy

what is the black thing on the coil bracket,which converts it from 4 wires to the pos and neg that go to terminals on coil called? do these sometimes pack in?
also the 4 wires on multiplug, how many should be live ?

crank sensor not shagged? if its sparking and then not sparking i would try that or the hall sensor in the dizzy, or could be a bad earth too

will try these this tomorrow, should it not spark at the coil first thou,then work its way to dizzy? or will this not be the case?
