Got no idea TBH. All I know is the engine is in backwards to the GM norm lol an a new headlight is ludicrously expensive!

there pritty solid tbf heathers was great fun and a realy nice handling little thing, main problem as with all fords of that era are the bottom wishbone bushes but there only about £20 a side new from motor for the full arm with new lower joint so no point pissing about trying to remove and fit new bushes factors there based on a fiesta like the tigra was based on a corsa, but are alot better handling tham the tigra imo shame it wasnt a 1.7 though

I took it out for a right good old drive this evening & was quite impressed TBH. Narrowly avoided a right good tank slapper mind lol lol

Going through its service history its had both new bottom arm abouts 10 months back so should be good for another few year.

racing pumas are awsome but hold there money well i thought about trackdaying heathers 1.7 before it sold the standard 1.7 are 126bhp and the racing with 152bhp would eat an xe corsa or nova no problem

just had a read up on the intervals for cam belt was origionaly 100k / 10years for all engines 1.4 1.6 and 1.7 but the 1.7 was revised to 60k/6years so yours wont need doing too often lol

puma is fords version of the tigra the plastic pipes where the heater pipes go under the scuttle are prone for going

the rear arches are prone to rusting as onall fords and novas lol.the boot can fill up with water when lifted up when raining.good cars tho

Good cars, the mrs has a s plate 1.7 with 70k on it. They handle and drive well. What I've noticed is the arches go, the parcel shelf warps and falls into the boot, the heaters don't respond quick to temperature changes and the sensor for the remote locking is temperamental

Based on a zetec s fiesta chassis. Decently nimble little motor, nippy for a 1.4. Front bushes are a waste of money, cos the lower arm is cheaper to buy with new bushes. Mrs has a S plate, just turned 90k and we've had fook all go wrong tbh. Average's 40mpg taking it steady, on decent tyres handles bloody well. Known for water in the passenger footwell, which is usually the windscreen seal.
Surprisingly, the racing puma is only 1sec quicker to 60 than the std 1.7.

Edit: Just realised I've just said the same as above. lol

Rich, isn't heather's a 1.7? I seem to recall thinking it was a 1.4 when I drove it as it was dog slow and I'm pretty sure she then pointed out it was a 1.7 lol

I wasn't overly impressed tbh, but then I suppose I was comparing it to the Celica. Would much rather have a Puma over a Tigra though in terms of looks.

There's no such thing as a puma rs, as far as I'm aware. The puma 'rs' is actually called a ford racing puma.

Edit - also, they don't do a Puma RS Turbo!

Southie

I'd get a turbo fit, Puma RST ftw lol

Lol not this again.......

But it would actually be quite awesome. A friend of mine just bought a Puma, adding to the speculation of his sexual preference, along with his soft womanly hands, and famous hand on hip pose, which we have named the teapot!

I was given a Puma 1.7 by my mrs when she bought her Audi and I always thought it was a bit of a handbag car. With a bit of 'Bogging' it ended up being quite a good little run about.
When I got it it had body kit, loud exhaust, 17" wheels and a few other bits to generaly wreck an otherwise pretty fun drive, so I put a set of 300mm brakes on the front, spacers on the rear beam to make it as wide as the Puma Racing, set of 15s with decent tyres and for the last year its been a belter. Even taken it to a few track days and it held its own.

For the money you can pick one up for these days they aren't bad, if you are willing to take the flac for driving a girls car. They do have plenty of quirks like the boot filling up with water when you open it in the rain, parcel shelf is useless, heater matrix pipes snap off in the bulk head because they are plastic, driving position takes some getting used to aswell. Iv got some one buying mine this afternoon and I'll be sad to see him go.lol
