As the title says...

Does anyone on here run their own, let's say... M.O.T garage with the traders policy to drie pretty much anything that comes in?

Reason being i wanted to know what the jump in price would be if you say had the youngest driver as 25 and reduced it to 21?

What would the difference be to pay about?

Thank you in advance!

If you were to reduce the age limit on your policy from 25 to 21 year olds how much would you get charged to drop the policy down.

SIMPLES.

Afaik no policy has an age limit its just the policy holder and whoever they decide to have on their policy as a named driver??

If you mean how much would the difference be in having a 25 or 21 yr old then that is really impossible to answer as theres loads of things to take into consideration, best thing to do is speak to the insurer..

In a nut shell...

My uncle owns an M.O.T business.

I'm coming up to the ripe age of 21 and got some pennies for a half decent car but the insurance is still pretty high.

His policy covers anyone to the lowest age of 25 but he's not sure how much it would cost to lower it to 21.

I can find out during the week when he rings up the insurers he's with but i wanted to get some answers now from people with experience in this.

Not being funny... but this is similar to fronting. Trader policies are for TRADE use so unless you actually work for your uncle then get your hand in your pocket like the rest of us have to do

What rich said, some local lad (who was 18) his old man owns a garage and had his son added when he passed his test, his son then was driving around scoobys, beemers and the dads new audi about. The police pulled him over (at a car kroooooze) and he said he was on trade but it was like 1am so they done him for no insurance and confiscated his dads new audi much to the amusement of all the crooooooooozers lol as why would he need to be at a car meet at 1am for work for a mot garage. The lads now lost his license. Just a heads up pal

A very common misconception,i was allowed as many vehicles as i liked for trade, social domestic and pleasure,i was covered for the lot and MOST trade policies ARE ALSO!
EDIT At the above also

Well sorry but I think if he can get on the insurance and is properly covered and he gets it dirt cheap then he should go for it. And to the rest of us that have to pay ridiculous prices its just tough. You know if you could get on a legit policy for dirt cheap you would. :p

I did,i was self employed in the motor trade and paid more than most for it,£124 a month

Only major difference i am reading here is.......some of you took out your OWN traders policies, so you were effectively still only insuring yourselves.

This young man is trying to pull a flanker by being a named driver on his uncles garage insurance policy, with (presumably) no affiliation to what the policy is for other than his family tree.

Nothing personal but your still a kid as regards driving, you want fast toys you will get hammered, we've been there and nothing has ever changed in that respect and never will. Sadly as baxter has said its a case of if you want it then pay for it, or wait until it becomes affordable. We've all whinged about it, but end of the day have had to pay for it.

And before anyone mentions it, i appreciate insurance is abit higher nowadays, but then the wages are a totally different ballgame also lol

why not just get your uncle to phone them up and ask the difference in price?!

My trade policy always had social domestic and plasure and personal car cover, so i could put my own vehichle which was noting to do with motortrade activity on the policy.

Nope not strictly speaking, its not "the garage" thats covered, they dont ask for a business name, just what your doing,ie selling/recovery/servicing and repairs etc

I wasn't sure if it was 'fronting' or not.

I'm not trying to get insured on GO FASTER cars.

I'm trying to get insured on a diesel for motorway miles.

E.g - an estate or saloon etc...

I know lads on their fathers traders policies so wasn't sure on if it was legal or not.
