Hi,

Wow this is a blast from the past. I was an active member of the club way back when in the late 90's. I went to Billing each year in the summer for the shows and even went to a show in Belgium in 2000. I remember attending a rolling road at Aldon automotive too. I see a few members from the club at the time are still active from looking at the site.

I owned K87 ATG from 1998 through to early 2001. It started life as a 1.2 XSi and during my ownership had the plate J8 TRO. I just wondered if my car was still on the scene? It was sold with a 1.6SV engine which the new owner put on twin carbs, i know he bought it with the intention of track use. The only digital picture i have is below (digital cameras were new tech back in the day!) Yes i know tastes change, i look at the picture and cry:cry: but it was cool at the time, or that's what i tell myself! Most noticeably the car had a one off cage which i actually bought in Belgium on the trip, it had diagonal crosses in the rear.

After i sold the car i bought a mint Corsa GSi as i needed a more suitable car for my job, i joined PCG but only ended up owning the car 4 months. In that time it got broke into twice and i classed it as a bad luck motor. I lost touch with the club and life and work took over

Anyway, after growing up and various car itches scratched, i bought a toy car for the weekends and to mess with in the garage. Always wanted an R5, it was my ultimate car as a kid and must admit i love it to bits, i've done plenty of work on it and those in the know will appreciate it....... i hope.

Once in a while i think about the Nova, fun, light, cheap to play with. I know if i had an big bank account and large garage there would be one in their with carbs or a blower on ;)

Anyway, if anyone knows of the car, i'd just like to know. Glad to see there is still a big following.

Thanks

Jay

It was sold with that plate on it. It was the original plate which was re-assigned once my plate was removed.

Your old Nova looked well apart from the wheels, whats your plans Nova wise now then?

Dan I had a poster from an old max power I think with your Skeet Nova in.

Yep, remember the car well. i have quite a good memory of the cars and faces of the lads who owned them. Not to hot on names. I remember 3 good friends who had one black gsi (2.0 16v turbo) one blue sri (2.0 16v turbo) and one red sri (20XE) think the red one had a fuel filler put in the door shut, plus think the blue ones owner was Beeston?

If i had the space i'd get another, i like doing track days and i'm sure the £/smiles ratio is up with the 5. I get a little worried about taking the 5 on track these days, its in great condition, if i came off or someone took me out i'd be gutted...... its a real dilemma, get me near a track and i cant resist!

Oh and the wheels were shocking........TSW alpines. Cool in the day, i just couldnt afford speedlines..............my dream wheel and in my opinion still the best looking wheel on a Nova

Southie

As long as it's a MK2 then Speedlines are fine in my book.

Save some pennies and treat yourself to a Nova again, actually save a lot of pennies because the prices of decent ones have rocketed tbh, otherwise can you weld lol

Nice 5 turbo btw, always wanted one after going out in a mates in the late 90's, also my dad had a Raider when he worked for Renault, tweaking turbos is bad for standard gaskets though lol

Andy Bishop - black turbo
Mark Beeson - blue turbo
Karl Rowntree - red XE

All those cars are still alive.

Its all a myth. Only thing bad for gaskets on a 5, is a chimp messing with something he knows nothing about. The car has a bad rep as people in the 90's used to turn up the boost an do nothing else. Its all about AFR's on a 5.

I run a T28 at 18psi with a std radiator and integrated oil cooler. It doesnt get hot and gets death on track. Changing jets in the carb is a black art, therefore an AFR gauge is a must. tuning a 5 past 180bhp is tricky compared to modern machinery, but fun all the same.

I'm going EFI next year, the Volvo lump is already parked up the road at my sister in laws :d

Is the Volvo the 1.7 340 or 440 turbo? The car I called a cheese block or door wedge years ago iirc.

My old 5 turbo which I miss greatly

Headgasket thing is a myth, mine ran at 18psi on a T25 and was used hard every day with no overheating problems whatsoever.

Same engine used in the 440, 460 and 480 (ugly cheese wedge!) ha ha ha

I bought a whole car with 70k on for £400! The engine is a 1.7 made by Renault, developed by Porsche and then detuned and used by Volvo, its 120bhp stock (same as 1.4 C1J) but with a unlocked ecu, T28, larger injectors and FMIC will produce a reliable 210bhp+. The engine was built with forged internals so is very strong. Ultimately for me EFI just means its a lot more controlled and less fragile. How many cars do you know still with a choke! lol

Wheel horder lol

White look best even though everyone calls them chavtastic.

What wheels are they? Clio ones??

I've always wanted a set of original 5 turbo alloys on my nova but think the offsets wrong.
