gear linkage problem

right i have a problem with the ball on the end of the plastic rod hitting the starter motor . the white plastic uj is the right way around and all looks fine even in neutral its only about 10 mm off the starter so oviusly it has no chance of going into 1st / 3rd ect . its only a 1600 8v motor so cant understand why its so close.

Where did the linkage come from?

the car when i removed the 1.2 it worked fine with 1.2 then i fit 1.6 and it no longer works got a feeling it might be a problem with the starter ( to big ) rather than the linkage but unsure

problem solved some brainiac had fit a big block starter on the 1600 motor . so quickley changed it to the correct one and jobs a good en loads of room now
