I'm after getting rid of the 206 for something a bit more economical, Ideally i want something small ish but quick lol.
Also looking at Astra Gsi's too.
I only have 3k cash to play with until i sell the pug and the clio seems to have dropped a little in price, just not sure i want to stay french though.

Any info would be great...:)

my bro had a 182 with a de-cat & it was an animal ! handled awesome aswell, downside was the interior seemed to weather a bit fast.

There like a refined XE nova lol

French tho so expect front suspension components to be crap and brittle

as opposed to a nova, which has bomb proof components...cough cough.......

Running costs.......are these things thirsty?

I know they are group 16 same as the pug, but i really need to be cutting my fuel costs down.

I'd probably go out and buy a Golf TDI 150 for about 3K >LINK (http://cars.trovit.co.uk/index.php/cod.ad/what_d.tdi%20golf%203000/id.97448658/type./pos.3)<

I'll probably buying one as my next car when I sell the Nova, always wanted a tdi Golf but especially with the fuel getting silly high it's even more appealing.

I have a 182, its a total riot and superbly chavvy for a factory car :)

MPG wise, on a run of A roads and Mway I can get 40-41mpg with the A/C off. On the commute to work I get about 36-38mpg depending on how much fun I want to have lol. Giving it stick I can see that getting down to high 20's lol.

Seems cheap enough to run, and parts arent too expensive.

imho the 182 looks far more modern than the 172ph2, which makes NO sense as from the front they are pretty much identical cars lol.

My only gripes are a piss tiny turning circle and the brakes feel rubbish (but that could be sticky sliders). Given I'm a picky bugger when it comes to how a car runs, I think thats a pretty acceptable set of gripes.

I have found a reasonable one on the bay....it has vinyl stripes and chequered bits on it, i like it as it's different in white and black.
Sturge thinks either the chequered or striped bits would have to come off.

its a 182 with 51k on the clock 04 plate, 1 day left and at 2200 it's a possibility..:)

trust me, there are LOTS of rough as feck clios about :( even the spangly ones on cliosport turned out rough most of the time.

I looked at about a dozen before finding the one I have.
it MUST MUST MUST have had a full timing belt and aux belt kit done by now, and ideally not have a weaping rocker cover.

A white and black 182? sounds like a badly chavved/looked after one lol... your call.

This is what concerns me, finding one that hasn't had the tits screwed off it.
The white n black one was silver, but had a full respray, i'm very particular about my cars too, and i like everything to be just so......Sturge calls it OCD....:d

I'd say they have hall had their tits screwed.... but aslong as its been done warm, then its fine. The naughty slut of an engine LOVES it!!!!
Service history is key with a 1*2. I was getting anal about milage etc but the one I got had 91K on the clock, but in better condition than most with less than half that on them :s

Its like an XE'd Nova but factory lol.

Same here, Found a really nice mk2 Astra GTE and the taxi miles on it are putting me right off.
HE thinks i'm being stupid as it's a really nice car and in mint condition, i'm just being practical, i don't want MY car to end up sitting on the drive buggered and needing parts....:)

dont do burnouts...the gearboxes like to go BOOM and are a pain to change.
likewise dont take a corner at high speed as you wont turn

more awesome advice from me :)

Buy one. If i had the money (and didnt need to fit baby stuff in!) i would have one. A mate has one and he loves it.

why should a high milage car mean it NEEDS parts? I've seen uber low milage VX220's need constant work to keep them going, and then crazy high mile ones that just need fuel and tyres.

Bubba, I've turned the wheel at high speed and found it goes where I wanted it to..... WTF have you been doing with one lol.

Pete, I found that a Quinny Buzz fits the boot with relative ease the other day, only gayness is the wheels have to come off... meh, I'll get my small buggy back in there ASAP

Not saying it should, but i rely on my car and need it to be working, plus i really can't afford to be buying major parts which would be my luck if i bought a high miler....;)

as has been said, providing its been serviced when it should have, and make sure water pump/belt kit/clutch etc has been replaced if its got a few miles on it then your half way there. most parts are cheap but working on the engine/box is a cnut as there is no room to do funk all, they handle very well and brake very well but if your looking to save a bit of money then ur heading the wrong way, there expensive to insure/tax and it will drink fuel the same as your 206gti, one thing i would pay attention to when buying one is the electrics, they are a nightmare tbh, usual suspects are the airbags which get problems for no reason,immobilisers/keys are prone to fail which are hard to pinpoint faults and are expensive to fix aswell
