Does anyone know what combinations of intake i can use from what engines/vehicles to convert my 1.6 8v gsi to run a single carb non injection?
so basicaly what inlet manifold and carb combo are possible its the round port mpi head, just temporary while i source a standard injection set up as dont want the car off the roads once remove the twin carb's its got on now.
cheers in advance

Pretty sure there isnt one pal, I would keep the 40s on til you source a standard injection setup.

A few years back i converted my 1.6 8v to carb, i have pics aswell but cannot post yet due to 15 post rule. Its not that easy but use 1.4 SR inlet and had ports filled with alloy weld then machined at engine centre to suit head, all bolts are same just different port shapes, but mine was very good, wish i could post them for ya to see, I then ran a weber twin choke carb. but its probably easier to go twin 40's for bolt on ease
hope this helps

Hi rich
I might end up just doin that, they need rejetting and new chokes ect... as its all set up for a 1.3, didnt really want to spend the money as it is suprising how much it starts to add up to get them to actually run really well, just thought it might be more wise to fit a twin choke carb on to an old inlet off something like an old mk1 astra 1600 8v or something? sure they had round ports, bang it on an go for not to much money an no hassel? like i say was only an idea tho.

Hi mate hmm would be interesting to see some pic's mate get posting so i can see them, i was sure there was a manifold that had round ports with a carb that fitted i just can't remember what tho.
As i said in my last post its not as simple as bolt on an go when your as tight as me lol lol its only for a daily driver you see so dont want to spend too much on it only to take it off, as unless i spend ages waiting for them to crop up second hand there quite expensive new as it needs rejetting and diff chokes unless i can just drill out the jets and bore out the chokes? then it would just be a weekend hmm will think about that now any advice/experiance on decent set ups for jets that can help? its bog standard motor was thinking along the lines of:
34mm chokes
135 mains
f11 emulsions
190 air correctors
35 pump jets
40/f9 idle jet and 4.5 aux vents
then go from there i have never ran twin carbs before hence being a bit hesitant about keeping them, anyone got any advice on the above i could be persuaded to keep them. also sorry about any spelling errors as i was never the best at english lol.
quite interested in how you got on with this mate

A local lad had a 1600 mk2 cav carb, on a modified 1400SR inlet.
Or some people use the 1300 mk3 astra one, for its longer and better throats.

the mpi head is the main issue, the ports are wrong on all the other small block engines.. if you could find an old mk1 astra or nova 1300 manifold, & carb, then you would need to find a good ally welder to build up the manifold, and then get it ground out to fit the 1.6. doable but a bit of a pain..
try to find a complete engine from an early astra mk3 1.6mpi, the you have all the bits... but your location doesn't exactly help things. do you get stuff from french breakers yards? or are there any on the channel islands?
