K16 Water pipe to header tank question,

On the k16 turbo the water pipe that go's back to the header tank, Does this have to go to the header tank or can in be T'd into another pipe such as a heater matrix pipe around the back of the engine...

Out of intrest why does it have to go to the header tank because of pressure issues ?

because the water flows through the turbo and back into the header tank
