what is a deffinitive way to tell the 1.8 from the 1.6. i have looked for the engine number as well im not that stupid

i dunno, they are all the same arent they apart from the throttle bodie

the only thing i've noticed is the oil filter appears to be much bigger on the 1800, but i've not looked at a z16xe

luke, how about taking a smart phone & doing a dvla check with the reg of the car... assuming the engine is still in it..

the rocker cover is different on the 1.8 iirc, why's the engine code missing?

because i dont have a smartphone mowgli

have a look on the cambelt cover top part, there's normally a little white sticker with the code on too :)

the oil filter on a 1800 is an insert type.

i think x18xe1 run insert oil filters but z18xe run cannister type..
Engine number is written in usual spot in dots - only suggestion is wire brush then thin runny paint - it kinda falls into the dots to make it more legable..
Rocker cover is a bit different, but does look quite similar..

inlet manifolds are different i think, sure they are similar to the ecotec bigblock ones
