View Full Version : buying an astravan
im hopefully going to see an astravan sportive tomorrow, but iv just found out it's the 2.0di and not the 2.0dti.... has anyone had any experiences with this engine i.e. power/reliability?
Ive got a 1.7Di an it goes like fook.
is yours the di and not the dti?
Yes mine is the Di engine. Its the same as a DTi just missing an intercooler.
the turbo is a low compression unit aswell. you had any problems?

/\ the turbos arn't low compression they are just run at lower boost (the way the engine was designed) - the turbo is as reliable as any other turbo as long as its looked after. Its not one we see loads of so that can only be a good thing.
thanks, its cheap and reliable im after so hopefully this does the trick!
Its the alternators & fuel EDU's that die on these engines.
Alternators are £100 a throw recon (or £285+vat new IIRC) an a fuel EDU is a £50 fix via plenty of people on eBay, or if your a dab hand with a soldering iron & a couple of teeny tiny capacitors you can diy it.
Oil pump seals seem to go aswell, mines well & truely forked, has been for 6 months or so now but its still not needed topping up with oil lol
I got mine with 106k on in September 2010 & its now just under 140k. Only ever had issues with the alternator (on 2nd one as first one was faulty) a fuel EDU repair in November ish & a leaky oil pump.
The lad sold it last night before I had chance to go up today..... Not impressed
