thermostat?

looking forsome advise got a mk2 sri j plate standard 1.4i engine etc just done head gasket water pump etc and new radiator,problem is fan came on for like 5 seconds when temp guage was showing half way do you think faulty thermostat if so is this the one that fits into side of radiator? or could it be something else?

in normal driving or when stationary???

it sounds more like the gauge/sender are reading a bit low.. unless it is boiling up, don't worry, it should be ok.

ye its when stationary and it is boiling up

gauge is under reading..

if the car is boiling up it is:
1. thermostat
2. rad clogged up
3. water pump
4. the cap on the expansion bottle
5. possibly airlocked.

as brand new rad and water pump
is this the one that goes into the side of radiator?

thermostat is in the ally housing behind the cambelt.
