my trackday/everyday nova

well i got another nova end of last year for a run around car to get to work in but ended up a project. it started as a 1.2 luxe+ with speedlines and lowed on fk colovers :cry: so i put gsi interior in, avo colovers :thumb: and a 1.6 8v. then wanted to get it painted, but when i took it apart and prep it for paint i liked the idea off leaving it striped out with just the dash and some buckets. then i dug out my polly windows i had for my turbo nova and the fibre glass boot and spoiler. got all the sound denting off the floor and cut the in sides off the doors out. so as i lost all the weight im now going to do track days in it this year. got the omp roll cage out the red nova still and thats going in lol

its a 1.6 8v mpi. engine is standard at the mo. might put a cam in it if i can find one cheap. im going to make light as i can and sort the handdling first.

i was going to put a rad in the boot of the nova the boot came off so they were to help let air through the rad. i was going to fill them in but as the boot is fibreglassit wont go rusty and the number plate will cover them lol

lol you no me to well im going to leave this one alone and just put it in. i want to use it this year. the most i will do to it is fit my bigger 660cc injectors and get it mapped if i want more power, as the vxr 440cc injectors that are in it are maxed out. its only running 23 psi overboost and holding 16 psi

got the 1.6 out today and started welding the bay up.

its overboosting to more like 26ish, the boost controller opens up fully to 23 and then it backs off down to about 16/17ish

with the audi rs4 valve you can map the boost with the revs, opening it up at 100% duty cycle all the time just made it wheel spin more, so the Steves @ T&R played with it a bit and decided that it would open up to 23psi to get it going, then close it a bit and make it hold 17ish.

Easier to explain on here than a text mate!

With regards to them calipers i will call you tomo..

thanks for the comments and it is a vxr colour arden blue, but when you put it next a astra gsi or vxr mine is a bit darker. the pics dont show how nice it really is. out in the sun light its got to be one of the best colours out there.

just brought f28 with lsd, sparco strut brace, baileys header tank, big block drive shalfs and hubs, engine mounts and ap 4 pots. got it all off discoinferno. so when them bits turn up the engine is ready to go in. just need to finish welding, paint the bay and then it can go in :d

tbh chris i ran the solid gearbox mount and i found it better with the front rubber mount hence tyhe chnage, the main mount is the drivers side and rear box mount to stop it twisting up accelration. all solid will shake ya teeth out lollollol

exhaust is good though mate

i have some cnc'd spacers for the nova proper hucentric job from billet ally if your interested

now got a seat in it and took it for a test drive on the weekend. just on low boost 1 bar and goes really well. need to get the tracking done tho. was funny with sr jack holding on to the cage for dear life lol

ive tagged most of it, the cage it so tight to the shell where it toches ive welded it. car feels very solid. :thumb:

The cage is a great snug fit isnt it. I think it only really needs gusets on the a pillar, the rest as u say is close enough to weld directly.

2 pumps shouldn't make a difference mate, the pressure regulator controls rail pressure.

Best to get it checked before any sustained abuse though

went well today made 379.9 bhp 357.4 lbft. theres no more to come from the turbo. could probly get more from tweeking the cams but im happy with it. will upload pics and vids tomorrow :d

still down the workshop getting the car ready for pv tomorrow. i allways leave everything to the last min. i just hope that it dont rain all weekend and get some time on the strip.

things left to do;

fit harnesses, lock wire nuts, fit bracket for steering colum, put boost controller on a switch, fit new wheel spacers, hover car out, wash and polish it at pv.

ive got power steering out of a corsa b, and gear shifter from a corsa c today. going to be fitting them tonight. also got a corsa b lmf quick shift gearlinkage as well so im hoping that will sort the sloppy gear change out. also thinking of putting a dash back in? need to get it sound tested as found out that TVL has noise limit of 105db at 3k and dont want to be black flaged on first outing.

From what I saw more and more Vauxhalls broke down as the day went along, I think a reliable engine is the way forward for this kind of event.

Specky for example, his alternator belt came off on nearly every run then his head gasket went as well!

speckys alt belt came off because the belt was worn and he said it didnt feel right when he done the head bolts up.

the car drives so much better now. matt at trl has done a awsome job on the mapping. the best bit is that he dont mind spending time getting it right. the fueling is spot on now, where as before it was just overfueling and eating plugs. the injectors were not scaled and all over the place. power is 371 now but feels faster were its controlling the boost properly. before it was hitting 1.8 bar then dropping to 1.0 bar and was told that the turbo was maxed out! now its set up properly hits 1.9 bar and holds 1.7 to the limmiter. when we was testing it hit 2.4 bar and was still going up but we let off as didnt want to kill it lol. so the turbo was not maxed out. shame trl is so far away but im going back there from now on !

jim who works with them mapped it. im taking the engine out next week as its leaking oil from neally every oil seal/gasket/oil cap lol and i blew the dipstick out on the first run at totb had to cable tie it down lol so its breathing heavy. going to fit a bigger breather system to it should sort it. then do a few track days and run what ya brung days. then over the winter back out for more power !!

im keeping this now. cant sell anythink and im not giving it away so need windows, steering rack as thats all i sold lol im selling the turbo and fitting gtx3076 good for 600bhp, finish my new inlet that i started building. custom rad and intercooler, custom exhaust manifold, hope to get a tig welder soon so will be making everything myself to save money and make custom bits to sell.

if its your first time doing tig, i strongly suggest you get some lessons to get you going! its lovely to do though, nice and clean and relatively quiet. really statisfying when you turn out a good weld too :)

have not been on here for a while. ive now put engine in a corsa b shell. got new inlet on it, piper cams, fixed all the oil leaks, new oil cooler and pipes, changed flywheel for one with stud and nuts to hold clutch on (just for piece of mind), had the head skimmed as had few pitting marks around water way witch was causing it to get hot when giving it some beans. bits ive got to order, going for new standalone management ec1 ecu from rs tuning who are going to map it as well, 2000cc injectors and im building my own exhaust manifold and going for a gtx3076r. hope to have this done by end of august if not sooner. :thumb:

i got them from a company off ebay. i use corsa c rubbers and inner lower punto mk1 worked spot on.
