Right so lastnight I was delivered something I thought I may never see again, my old nova !
As its been 5 years since I owned it I expected it would probably need a few things sorting depending on how well it had been put back together.
I have been asked to put a LET in it and sort out the poor running of the current engine which is misfiring all the time so out came the tools, off came the bonnet and I was greeted with what can only be described as some severe bodges !
Here is a list of some of whats been found so far :
1- Alternator belt on inside out due to no tensioner
2- remade starter loom with block connectors and some fancy brown wire
3- Single wiper motor bolted through slam panel hole
4- Single wiper motor wired with 4 way connector block
5- AFM wired with 4 way connector block
6- No Lambda to be seen anywhere
7- One bolt missing from fuel rail, other loose so could pull the rail out.
8- Dash fitted with wood screws
9- Boost guage, yes its a XE lol
10- ALL heater controls disconnected
11- Steering column hacked off at a angle, suspect boss was hammered onto splines as won't budge with a puller.
12- Fuel pump not wired from relay for whatever reason.
13- 9/10 earths sel tapped into body within inches of oe earth points.
I could go on all day.
My worry is that do people have any idea how bad some of those mods actually are, hasn't anyone heard of a soldering iron and heatshrink
I know we all need to learn somewhere but frankly if you have no idea just do some research or ASK someone that might know.
This car had a Cav clocks fitted which ofcourse don't fit, they had been connected together with a HUGE block connector as well, why the hell didn't they just fit a normal nova dash with a rev counter or does the 140mph clocks make the terribly fitting dash ok lol
The last thing I noticed before removing the complete loom was the modified starter loom that now runs through a hole in the bulkhead, without a grommit obviously, now what I couldn't quite work out was why would you do that when I found the original starter loom in the bay with the alternator and oil switch wiring as per any stock loom :wtf:
Its a odd one, I'm glad to see the car back and its nice to be working on it but it does massively concern me that people think putting a car together like that is acceptable, there is shonky and then there is just dead rough.
I've decided to just start over with it as fook reparing that loom, plus there are a ton of other things that need sorting so please take a look in the wanted forum for parts I am desperately after.
Here are some pics to entertain you.

All I can say or advise is if your in the market for a nova thats been worked on just have a good look round it first as no matter how fast it may go you could be getting into a complete deathtrap.
