View Full Version : Oh you get some odd people these days...
Was in tesco earlier shopping for beer, and saw a young couple shopping for a mountain bike (always makes me cringe seeing people shopping for a bike in a supermarket) but the one this guy was looking at, was some beefy framed 'full suspension' thing, and it looked aimed for a kid of about 10 (at most) years old, and it was that fooking heavy the dad couldnt even lift it to put it back on the display shelf, he kind of heaved it up with a 'eeeuurrrrghhhhh, yeeeaahhh'p, (thunked it back on the seven inch high display shelf) yep, he will be fine with that' wtf, seriously did i just hear him say that, i so wanted to say to him, oi, he wont grow into a massive framed bike, and if youre not strong enough to lift it then how will he be, and to slap him for thinking that was a real 'MTB'
Poor kid id hate to have seen what they got him for christmas lol

Be fair Spud.
The kid might have been a stepchild, or ginger or summat.
Even if i hated my kid i wouldnt foist a two ton wannabe MTB onto them, if you really want to buy a cheap mountain bike then buy something cheap from a LBS, at least there is less risk of buying a recycled (see what i did there) nova lol

Na lol, i've seen something similar in there with a exercise bike tho lol
It takes me back to when i was about 13 and the rents got me a 22" townsend hotrock mtb, i wanted a mountain bike, not a mountain made from a bike, i never grew into it ever and im over six foot tall now lol
My first proper mtb was a '95 Giant ATX 850, came with full STX groupset and was ace, spent fookloads on it and had it valued for the extended house insurance cover @ £1500 when i was 18, why the fook did i quit biking, it still makes me cry today as not trying to blow my own trumpet, but i was really getting good and who knows where id be now:cry:
Better than no mtb though, i got what i was given and if i argued i got a slap lol? Dont think the kid would be that bothered if it was a£400-£500 piece of kit lol the fact hes got his own bike or a 'new' bike would be exciting enough for me (when i was younger) IMO of course :)
Errr no then, how do you expect a sub ten year old kid to be able to ride a bike, that a fully grown bloke struggled to lift off the floor:eek:
Youre not a rider are you lol
Maybe the bloke was just being a girl lol, i know what you mean the bikes that are cr4p and weigh a ton, but if thats all your parent(s) could afford then you make do, im just saying from experiance as growing up with a single parent i ended up with all the cr4p no body wanted, but it didnt stop me riding, and i still ride when possible (although i broke 2 ribs last time i went out) lol. I do see your point and i do agree, those bikes are utter crap and not ideal for a kid etc, when (if) i do have kids i would rather buy quality second hand bike than a brand new crappy bike for them, but not all parents understand the idea of quality lol. Blimey i'm babbling on
And youre also showing signs of becomming sensible lol
Im glad i struggled with the nine foot frame i had, as it made me a better rider, if i could do well on a three ton forty foot frame then bonus, but something that at least fitted me wouldve gone a lot further lol
I still wonder what id ride, how competent id be, and where id be at, had i not quit ten years ago:cry:
If I kept riding I would have been giving John Tomac a run for his money :d
I should never of given up going regular either :( slowly getting back into it tho :)
Yea i have had my prime, and im only 20 lol
but i just do it for the crack, nothing beats a roadtrip session with the lads, the banter cannot be beaten lol
spud. having seen the abuse a kids bike gets, i can see why the bloke was buying a cheap one... every so often, my lot want to go on a bike ride, and i have to straighten them out, fix the brakes, remove skipping ropes, dolls, twigs etc from them & pump the tyres up... they will never put them in the shed, so they are rusty, the mudguards are smashed, so they get covered in shyte..... when they show me some appreciation of their bikes, i might get them a decent one.
