Well i wanted to start a thread on this a while ago but i was waiting until the car arrived at mine before opening my mouth and jinxing the deal lol

Ive known the owner of the car for ten yrs plus now and have begged her to sell it to me so many times its untrue, well she finally gave in and has let me buy her car.

The car has been away for a long time but was fully restored years ago and put back into storage where its been since except the odd show back in early 2002/3 iirc

The car is a silver L registered gsi reg L26 LUM and has just been delivered to my house tonight, to say im chuffed is a understatement lol, tried to take pics but its too dark so i will get them tommorow as i have the day off !

:d :d :d

Nice one mate, there's a couple of genuine minters near me that the owners don't want to part with, a guy not far away has a really clean 100% original nova gte in black.

Look forward to some pictures of it, I guess they give in eventually lol

Right, this is really exciting and impressive,BUT the way you and Joe Richardson went on about "this secret" is that it was something ultra rare and epic.
To be then presented with a Nova GSi was somewhat disappointing lol lol
Really though,im glad youre happy with it,its a good feeling getting one youve been after for a while.......

Agreed though, no nova is "amazingly unbelievably special" imo.

If you put up a rs500, or a mk1 escort then yeahlol

So...you sold a mint GSi to buy another??? Whos the muppet?

i bet there are very very very few silver L reg gsi novas actually made never mind still about, defo got to be more Sports than l reg silver gsi novas, it might not mean much to some but then again what so good about a C reg 1.3 base nova with stickers?

( not a dig cheif just my view :thumb: )

18-02-11, 07:32 PM
lol i sold a mint gsi to buy another mint gsi that i believe is rarer as its a l plate silver one, correct me if im wrong but i havent seen another?

The majority of gsi novas are now redtops or turbos etc hence why i am looking to keep the car a 1.6 and as i bought it.

I never said it was that special you should piss your pants but im happy knowing i had two of the cleanest unmolestered gsis in the country on my drive.

Andy
18-02-11, 07:38 PM
I havent said anyting derogeratry (sp) about it,only that the way the "special one" was being spoke of it was disappointing to just see a late registered Nova.
The car looks in cracking condition and silver is indeed rare.
What i was trying to point out was just because of the 1st letter of its reg plate,it does not make it special..hell if my 86 Antibes were registered on an L would it command the same respect? would it fukk, its just another Nova that was sold late, thats all.
Like i say, nice car and i hope you enjoy it,nowt funny or personal intended mate.

Andy
18-02-11, 07:47 PM
Ok then, how many Y plates are there?????
Again,it makes no relevance what plate they are,as long as theyre enjoyed owning, looking after and most important driving.
An original Gsi is something id love to have, but i wouldnt care whether it were H or L reg or owt in betweeen. To me its just a Nova Gsi,nowt more, nowt less.

Tbh i could of bought a y plate , a sport or a different plate gsi etc etc , but this is what I like, nothing more nothing less , i thought people might like to see the car and make nice comments about it but apparently not??

Maybe next time someone shows there nice xe nova gsi i should say 'nice gsi but redtops are everywhere so you shouldnt have bothered' or maybe nice antibes but its a waste of a good donor shell lol

Anyway im happy so enough said lol

The boot sticker is correct i believe mate, because the engine has the bosch airflow meter like a early setup so the car was just registered later on.

so its a E16SE engine not a late coil pack C16SE engine like mine
its been built 1991 ish and put on the road in 1993
make's it a L REG.

which mean's it should have the square vauxhall badge and no

18-02-11, 10:14 PM
Thats looks really sweet mate, don't take this the wrong way but I really think you should ditch the speedlines, everywhere you look at car shows its gsi's with speedlines and tbh a gsi that clean and original really needs the original 3 spokes.

Looks like a good purchase, as regards the whole plate thing, I think its cool as it was probably one of the last sold.

7ova
18-02-11, 10:15 PM
yes mate correct for the build date/engine but not for the plate
but which way do you want it??????????

w88rdy
18-02-11, 10:22 PM
Well you cant choose when it was bulit can you, i want the car to be as it should be so the build date goes with the engine etc etc.

So the stickers are staying, the v5 says the rest ! L reg is a cool touch for me and i love 6 digit plates as well.:thumb:

I have a set of original three spokes and centres for the car as well already to go on depending on my mood, but tbh there wasnt as many speedlines about at the shows last year on the png stand etc as i thought tbh.

The v6 brakes might cause me a few issues though with the wheels lol

I wouldn't worry about the stickers, mine is a 91 H reg with the round sticker and no vauxhall sticker and siemans ecu with Lucas dizzy lol

Ive seen the car before, did the owner use to use the forums? LregGSi or something?

Does look very nice mate, do still like the mk2 GSi's but i think Ive been turned, as i truly love my mk1 more then i ever did my GSi, i don't think i could own one to use as a daily car, or a 2nd fast car, as I'm guilty of XE'ing my first nova, and that was a J plate Silk violet GSi, but it was too slow as a 16se, it rotted away in the end lol

BUT it does look very nice, so I'm guessing the reason is you want to create/own a TOTALLY standard and uncommon GSi?

Very nice. glad to see a standardish car that will be kept that way.
At least all these XE conversions are pushing up the value of the proper Novas out there eh lol ;)

If you want to confirm the build date of the car then have a look at Duicks VIN explanation....

It's not on its original number plate. Do you have any paperwork showing the original? If you do I can look on EPC and see the build info :)

Looks sweet mate, wish i still had one.

My GSi was a mid '93 with multec injection (correct me if i'm wrong)
http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm291/malt1977/Cars/3fd2924c.jpg
Ignore the plates as they all start with a J in Jersey.

phazer
20-02-11, 12:57 PM
Yep, the multec system was used on the C16SE which all of the later GSi's had.

That is the number plate on all the history etc etc, it has had a private reg on at some point in its life though.

phazer
20-02-11, 01:58 PM
EPC can search number plates ;) Mine is there as are others I looked at. Yours isn't couple with the 2 digit number leads me to think, that isn't the original issued plate.

It'll still be at least an L-Plate tho.

If the current plate isn't original, it won't be "newer" than when first registered.

I don't see anywhere where I said it would?

Thats the reg number on the service book right back to the pre delivery checks etc so i believe its the original tbh

I don't see anywhere where I said it would?
You didn't and I didn't say you had.

Original plate or not (and according to the last post from w88rdy it is) it's still an L-Plate GSi.

The EPC doesn't recognise every plate. I've done a few checks on cars ive owned and had no results.

phazer
20-02-11, 06:36 PM
 Not overly useful pointing out that it's a L plate though is it? lol

EPC has every reg of the family cars we've owned over the years so it ain't bad. Anyway, I've checked again and it has found the car.

It was built in 1992 and was apparently originally fitted with a C16SE which would be correct for the year of car and eventual registration.

It is a genuine GSi :thumb:

W88rdy: Does the vin end with 89?

Keif

 Not overly useful pointing out that it's a L plate though is it? lol

Yep, people are saying it's not the original plate.

Who cares, if it's original or not, it's still as the OP stated one of the few L-plated GSi's :tard:

[insert yawn smilie lol]

Glad you found it phazer and thanks for the info, is that a program you have on your computer?

phazer
20-02-11, 08:29 PM
It's the Vx parts catalogue. It allows searching by registration as well as VIN. Quite cool as you can see the build options, trim codes etc.

It's dealer only software though.

I've got a few versions, and it only works on my 2011 EPC.

phazer
22-02-11, 11:22 AM
I think it was added sometime between 2006-2009, the version I have access to isn't 2010/11.

In the top left where the VIN box is there is a drop down than has VIN, REG and something else relating to specific trim/option codes.

Also being really fussy but both cars could do with their wipers moving down on the screen a bit so they are level and at the bottom.

Well it's been a while since the cars been out or had anything done with it but its having four 40 profile tyres tomorrow and is going for mot on Thursday , while its been off the road I decided to give it a once over and found it needed a little tlc from a previous so called repair that i had spotted when i viewed the car but figured i would sort one day, this resulted in a genuine back panel being sourced from Germany and a little fabrication to preserve as much of the original bodywork as possible.

Pic below of what was lurking behing rear bumper
