As I finally sold my Corsa XE I decided that was me finished with XE's (had about eight now) plus the one in the Corsa was the best of the lot so don't want another as will always compare it.

Decided I wanted a sensible daily so started looking a Type R's (always liked them) and put a deposit on a totally standard one. This then fell through due to the private plate being taken off the car and no logbook received back.

Searching the forums I spotted a car listed late at night which was fairly heavily modified and as i'd had a few drinks it seemed like a great idea. Got in touch with the owner and everything checked out ok so I bought it.

Mods it has are:

Toda manifold and decat
Kakimoto cat back exhaust
Tein superstreet coil overs with EDFC controller.
Polybushed lower arms
Uprated engine mounts
K100 Ecu
ITG induction kit
RBC inlet manifold polished and ported to 70mm
Mugen pedals and front lip
Brembo front discs and yellow stuff pads

Car has fairly high miles so was a little concerned but been told they are pretty bulletproof.

Car was suffering a slight misfire so took it to TDI North today who mapped it and they had a play with the map as it was fuelling too much low down. Did a couple of power runs as well and made 249bhp and 174ft/lb. Apparantly the filter is causing a restriction then so been recommended to get a new one.

Future plans are to tidy the bodywork a bit (previous owners ex missus has keyed all the bumper), refurbish the alloys (rears have been done already) and fit some decent tyres to replace the Nankang ditchfinders on the front.

Car is also booked in for a fast road tracking setup next weekend as currently appears to be running positive camber on the front. lol

Trying not to go to mad with this one as need to keep it reliable.

Nice buy.

Will be watching this. Not only because i work at the factory, but because i hope to own one soon.

Reg looks similar to the ones that come on the lease cars!

What other plans have you got for it?

Never driven one then have you?

Gearstick position is awesome, right within hands reach not arms reach, and has a fantastically positive feel to it, i love these to drive and really like them!

Saying about the front wheel camber has reminded me, Lee you will also find, that your rear tyres scrub out the inner edges before the outers, this is normal unfortunately due to the stance/camber of the rears, annoying, but normal:thumb:

Not too much if I can help it as I already have the Nova and the MR2 which are also heavily modified.

However I like the look of the supercharger in Stoo's thread.

I'd definitely recommend one, difference is night and day between driving this and the Nova turbo although the Nova would destroy it in a straight line lol

Have heard this, tyres are bloody expensive as well hence the previous owner going cheap with Falkens and Nankangs. Hopefully be able to test the handling out a bit better once it has been set up next weekend.

Notice I have coilovers and haven't slammed it on its ****, told everyone I was being sensible with this one lol

They should be running bridgstone potenza's as per the factory fit (just if you wondered lol)

Could easily go lower and still not be silly:p

I know, going to fit T1R's when I replace them like I do to all my cars. £50 a corner cheaper than Potenza's!!!

Furry muff, i ran them on my XR2i but due to the camber they shredded the inner edges in less than 3k which i was gutted about, so be prepared to lose the rears on yours in somewhere similar:eek:

Very nice that Leeeeeee

Just to add, there is a JRSC kit for sale on CTRO right now ;)

As for tyres, OE is potenza RE040

Jap spec RE040s are awesome, UK RE040s are toss.

I have them, they are getting trashed as fast as possible!
Falken 452s are apparently very good for these, I will consider them next if I dont go for A048s

Lee H
17-02-11, 08:41 PM
Cheers Stoo.

It has the Falken 452's on the back so might leave them and just change the fronts.

I love the difference the ECU makes, makes the car far better to drive as power is much smoother and available much lower down!!

452s are apparently real good, very stiff sidewalls compared to the T1Rs

K100 is ace! AND it gives you better MPG if the part throttle maps are good.
I have the K-Pro, same thing but i can plug my laptop in and datalog/tweak the map....

Lee im not sure why but they all look like they have positive camber, it looks weird in makes you think its all wonky in been bent but thats the way they look for some reason, my one looks the same so does both my mates, i had it in last weekend to get checked in all was fine, also another thing is watch the filter isnt relocated so it can pick up water, my mates one was fitted by a so called mechanic which resulted in a blown engine before x-mas,which was rebuilt but has never been right since tbh, its not common but sthing to bare in mind

Does he happen to work at eddie wrights in scunthorpe? Waggy? He had a s/c one as his own and a turbo'd one which was/is his birds. His had blue wheels at one point mega loud and everyday past work at 7 hitting the limiter on every road until he gets to work and it just takes it. Lol

Friday the car had a new Cat 1 alarm fitted as the old one had packed in ages ago and i wanted to make it a bit more secure.

Would love to say what difference it made but after this it all went wrong.

Decided to have a look at the idle issue (car idles at 2.6k when cold) and removed the throttle body. The gasket disintegrated. Tried to put the throttle body back on with instant gasket until I can sort a proper one but now when I start the car it idles worse than ever. It's bouncing between 2.5k and 3k and won't come down. Hoping it's just the gasket but not had the best start to Honda ownership, managed to break it within a week!

Proper fedup with it now as on the bus next week due to this!

Stoo
20-02-11, 11:07 AM
That's the IACV issue mate. Its a common fault For It To Stick and cause the symptoms you describe. Knackered gasket will not be helping either

Its located Under the throttle body.

Two small screws remove them.
Clean it out.
Should sort it.
Does it go way when it's warm??

As for gaskets, I've got a TB and IACV gasket here if you need them.
For SC conversion but I don't new them yet.

Right, car is fixed again now, see how long it last this time. Big thanks to Stoo for sending me a gasket and putting up with many questions.

Cleaned the idle control valve and fitted new throttle body gasket and was left with the high idle issue still. Took it back up to TDI on Saturday and they noticed the gasket between the inlet manifold and the adaptor for the throttle body was missing. Fitted a new gasket here and adjusted the idle control valve on the ECU and it seems fine now. Revs drop perfectly to 950 now when car has warmed up rather than hunting and hanging at 1500.

Also had the fast road setup done and the car feels so much better to drive now. It had positive camber on the front before it was done. Set to 1.25 degrees negative now and 2 degrees on the rear as I've lowered it without camber adjustors so can't do anything about it.

Car had a new clutch fitted last week, can't believe how much easier and nicer to drive it is now. Old clutch was nearly down to the rivets and generally falling apart.

Decided to give the car a bit of a clean and polish today, apologies for the dreadful Iphone pictures, going to try and get some better pictures over weekend. Really regretting getting a black car as it gets so dirty during the week on the motorway etc.

Next job is to maybe get the bonnet and bumper resprayed as i've never seen a car with so many stonechips in my life

Lee H
01-04-11, 05:51 PM
Handles well enough for me but had a lifetime of Nova's and Corsa's so hard to compare it really as it's far better than them. The fast road setup made a big difference as they run zero camber from the factory so with it set to 1 degree is feels more responsive and better in the corners.

Puts a smile on my face most days, loves the revs, limiter at 8700! Not to bad on fuel for what it is, do 320 miles ish a week to £60 super unleaded.

Dropped the front bumper off at bodyshop while I was away as it had been keyed deeply in two places and had more stonechips than any car i've seen before.

Nice car Lee! I thought I hadn't seen your 'red' corsa around lol!

My Corsa wasn't that faded for flame red (had to polish it every other week though lol )

Do you ever take the Cossie out now or is it just an ornament like my Nova?

Lee H
29-05-11, 08:25 PM
Went up to York Dragway today to see what the car could do. Took it with full interior as thats how I drive it every day and was interested to see how it compared to my old 2.0 Nova. It beat it!!

Managed 11 runs altogether, the best being a 14.03 @ 102mph. The Nankang front tyres are seriously shocking so pretty sure thats what stopped me getting a 13. Won my class quite comprehensively though and also beat a Scooby a couple of times before we were racing in classes. A "redtop" Corsa was fairly close but the guy wouldn't race me for some reason. Reckoned he was getting it chipped to 200bhp for the next meeting, I had to walk away at this point!!

The launch control was doing my head in though, couldn't launch properly as it doesn't let you rev it over the limiter until you are moving, think the limit needs moving up as it was ruining my 60ft times.

Well chuffed the car has taken so much abuse, seems to love being revved to 8500ish in every gear considering its just clocked onto 110k.

Nah, never took it up since I built it but it is a lot quicker than the Civic at the moment, would expect something around 13 seconds dead given what others have ran with similar power etc.

Treated the car to some Recaro's tonight. Went for the Accord Type R ones as they are half the price of the Civic ones and match the rear seats and rest of the interior far better. Just need some Civic Recaro seat rails to get them fitted which will no doubt be like finding hens teeth.
