Although they are kind of enclosed on F1 cars
I'm never too keen on stuff like that, one stray spark or some fuel goes a little astray and... yikes. I prefer to keep my petrol inside the engine!

i don't like the look of that, surely something like this shouldn't be allowed on road or track ?

Man up
Get some nuts!
my vote for inappropriate reply of the week...........
ps. that is some really shyte bodgery on the vid, decent size injectors & a good map would make just as much if not more power..... i'm guessing its yet another 1/4 mile rice rocket......
my vote for inappropriate reply of the week...........
flol
Odds on due to the 11K revving it needs the fuel injecting a LONG way from the valve to ensure it mixes.... Granted the way its been done in the vid is a bodge and there are better ways to do it lol

Misting injectors as per F1 vid rather than a water gun would be a startlol

minor details in the whole plethora of wrong. The meaning was well though by the look of it
oh heck, imagine if someone threw a smoke out the window of the car in front and it went under the bonnet..............

fcuking lol
sarcasm requires tone that the internets cannot provide :( lol
true, although if i put *sarcastic* it would kill it.
Never mind, hollywood's still a dangerous place to be,cigs cause explosions bigger than nuclear bombs, and skylines have scania gearboxes fitted lol
Lets edit out our tracks lol
edits: doesn't work if you don't join in :( lol

it is physically impossible for a ciggy to ignite petrol, the flash point is higher than tobacco burns at... blame the movies for the error

I know,i once stubbed out a cigarette in a motorbike tank
you can also drop a match in liquid petrol and it wont (shouldnt) light :)
the best arson device was a lit cigarette held vertically, with a load of matches taped round it, in a small plastic container with some petrol in, with some paper to hold it all in...... there will be no forensic evidence left, the container will melt because of the petrol, leaving a pool of accelerant, and when the cigarette lights the matches, it goes up really quick......
of course the smoking ban has made this device a bit redundant... as you will get caught just by the smoke.....

But the vapours on top will surely? petrol definitely goes up nicely when you drop a lit match on it, my aunt nearly lost her eyebrows with sketchy bonfire antics lol
depends on the ambient temp, how much surface is open, how contained the vapour is etc.

In regards to lighting petrol with a match... I lit the fire in my living room about an hour ago, wouldn't catch so I splashed a little petrol on the logs and they lit up first time with a match.
Unless if something absorbs petrol it ignites differently?

So in a theoretical perfect environment it doesn't go up but for any practical applications you lose your eyebrows lol
i think this thread needs a disclaimer lol
"Children, playing with petrol is far too much fun for you, please leave it to an irresponsible adult"?
"Children, playing with petrol is far too much fun for you, please leave it to an irresponsible adult"?
Thanks,i shall take that as a compliment lol
Who said it was the end of that statement and not the start that applies to you lol
at 25,on paper i am an adult.
Realistically, people make their own minds up lol

Is that the motor for your space frame project Ste?
Where your secondary fuel rail and injectors are positioned, won't have the same amount as atomisation as the one featured in the video.

Yeah its mine.
Your right at the posisition of the injectors, i would also expect some wet wlling in this position.
Im thinking about moving them but other things need to be done first.

What ever way you look at it i wouldn't feel comfortable working on or close to that engine while it was running with a cigarette alight in my mouth lol
Surley there has to be a better way to do that?
the YBT can run 8 injectors enclosed, fair enough it's not on boddies but surley with some skill it can be done better?

Just what I thought!

I knocked this up to test, it is a scary thought that if the timing is spot on ...........

Looks ace Ste! I've been following you build thread since day one, and it's right up my street.
I don't know why you lot are well against the idea. It would take a miracle for it to explode in some sort of Bruce Willis based film. No different to multiple carbs. If you think about it. Although being contained, the entry point of fuel in a carb is quite a distance from the inlet ports.
I wouldn't be against an enclosed system, but one like in the original vid where the fuel is basically being sucked across an air gap (as in, not enclosed) into the engine... hmm. Its still possible to flibble petrol everywhere, afaik in some applications its even designed for some of the fuel to drop out of suspension and not go in the engine

A car of many tricks.
Me and my friend have a name for the JDM induction kits, that are styled very much like that. Would anyone like to hazard a guess?

Widow makers?
External injection = external combustion lol
and how exactly would the wording on the insurance modifaction list go?
" well it has injectors that squirt petrol at the engine, it's not a fire hazard as the engine sucks the petrol out of the air so it's all good"
fook any benifit that may bring, i wouldnt run the risk of looking like Niki lauda for the sake of a few bhp,

You're obviously not dedicated enough :p
I love how jumpy people are about it, you do realise a 1.2spi is set up in a similar fashion, and carbs work purely by sucking fuel into the engine, they don't even squirt it in properly lol
Real heroes use these...........

Squirts in a /\ fashion straight onto/past the butterfly. I found that out when I took mine apart while it was running.
Indeed, must be a fire hazard! Direct injection only pleaselol
A 1.2 spi will pass an mot and even trackday scrutineering with it's setup,
I very much doubt that external injection would pass either,

You better get onto the F1 teams sharpish then because the first race of the season is coming up! lol

taken from FIA regulations,
5.8.1 The pressure of the fuel supplied to the injectors may not exceed 100 bar. Sensors must be fitted which directly measure the pressure of the fuel supplied to the injectors, these signals must be supplied to the FIA data logger.
5.8.2 Only one fuel injector per cylinder is permitted which must inject directly into the side or the top of the inlet port.
Widow makers?
Lol I like....
I don't know where it came from, but, we call them whale cocks!
taken from FIA regulations,
I've seen 5th injectors on FIA approved cars....
Edit- what the hell is external injection anyway?!
taken from FIA regulations,
and the ones from the F1 testing vid fire directly into the top of the inlet port, so?
Generally F1 cars have 8, db lol
Good idea for water injection I think...
but in this case MAD! :)

Lol I mean the term external injection. I googles that, and nothing car related came up. I always thought the technical term was stand off injectors.
