i'm possibly going down the diesel route, and wondering if anyone has a decent complete engine setup, or even a donor car & how much they'd want for it...

ps. i know about the different mount on the chassis rail.

i was thinking more like fabricating a new mount bracket to fit where the petrol one goes....

not really that possible but you could make something like Gunnys VXR build and use the Astra/Cav Three bolt mount rather than the Nova two bolt what tends to break!

There's a 4 bolt fitting on the front of the block around the alt mounting area that looks prime for an engine mount in the original place.

Were you planning a rebuild? I have my complete engine sat at the moment but it's eaten the business end of a glow plug in one cylinder.

mike, i went looking at using the petrol mount to mount a diesel, it cant be done, you need to completly remove the petrol mount as the alt sits smack in the way

as balley said you will have to have a go with something like gunnys vxr or put a new leg in

MK999

or mount the alt lower out of the way and use a different V belt.

Balley

any lower and it will hit the cross member mark, theres nearly no space

MK999

Should be enough space to mount it more forwards and a tad lower though. Or screw the alt and go total loss ignition! lol

You could I guess lol.. I have seen them mounted higher up too ..

mk999, just how complete is it? apart from the piston being whacked, of course..

MK999

It's lacking the alt as the only major component, and some water hose bits/thermostat housing on the side and I'm wanting the turbo off of it, but it didn't spool up properly so you'd be wanting to do a scrappy run for one anyway... Other than that it should all be there I think, I don't remember taking too much off of it.

so i'd need rad etc..

do they fit straight on to a f13 box?

MK999
15-02-11, 02:06 PM
yep, in fact they come with one... WR though, there is one of those sat around as well lol

edit: and you'll definitely be wanting a diesel box as obviously you'll top out at 90 on a petrol box lol

I have a Td rad and fan, nearly new alt and probably all the water pipes MK doesn't have along with the loom clocks etc.

Next Question...........£££???

James gave me his engine for nothing to get me out of a hole so I'd feel an ass profiting from it tbh, yours if you wanna take it away. You will need the U shaped heater hose that goes from the oil cooler to the block/head, as that did come on the engine but leaked so I re used my old one.

Mowgli you will find it hard to get a F13 Diesel box, I sold mine for £50 quid with a half knackered diff! I have been told there ''sort after''

Why not fit the F18 and flywheel and starter from a 1.7 ? Might be better in the long run any way

MK999
15-02-11, 07:11 PM
er, he's found one already? It's sat in my garage lol
