View Full Version : Screamer pipe
Don't worry, I'm not putting one on my Nova just wondering how they work lol
Am I correct in saying they take the exhaust gases of an internal wastegate and release them to atmosphere rather than going back to the exhaust system?
And what happens if you have an external wastegate?

screamer pipe is a external waste gate ment to be joined back into the exhaust before cat to be "legal" but most/all people just dont bother joining and just dump it into atmos sounds ****ing awesome imo

No your not correct lol
Yes your correct
I thought you worked for a turbo company?!

I am guessing he skim read over the internal/external bit :p

Same thing as if you had an internal wastegate; although I can imagine it would be easier to fit one to external?
The wategate merely diverts exhaust gas around the turbo to limit boost; internal ones are housed in the turbo housing, external ones are outside. Screamer pipe just stops this gas from going back into the exhaust, dropping it to atmosphere instead of going back into the exhaust system (after the turbo)
Screamer pipes are fitted to external wastegates, internal although it may be possible would be ridiculously difficult as you'd have to modify the turbo casing, and I guess that would be classed as an external wastegate too once you were done lol
The 350-400bhp MR2 Turbo my mate just sold had a screamer. Sounded like a jet fighter.

Ja, I was thinking theoretically in terms of what the pipe actually does (i.e. disperse to atmosphere rather than return back to exhaust).

fixed :d lol
i googled [screamer pipe] & it was 359 posts before i found anything to do with cars.... it would appear there is an anal sex video of the same name.......
fixed :d lol
If you want to be pedantic then it would still technically be an internal wastegate as the actuator would still be inside the turbine housing

Maybe! However I see sour grapes, especially given the screw you neg feedback :p lol
WTF, that's not supposed to be possible lol

Tis for an admin, they can sit and press the neg button over and over if so desired lol

Sounds like a F22 Jet
Only on external wastegate turbos, or welded up the internal and ran one I guess lol Not sure if that's the done thing or whether some turbos come for external wastegate use, that'll be James' area lol
How do I fit one to my TD? It needs one for PV !!!!
I swear i seen a mk3 astra c20let with a screamer pipe on the KKK thinking about it ill have a look

That just about sums things up lol

Yes you can make one for a c20let.
Separate the actuator and the exhaust, one goes to the exhaust, other use a piece of pipe
I'm going to make one in work for mine:)
so looking at that downpipe i put up you guys reckon it would work, me wants one. lol
They're like a 3" turbo back. You have to earn it IMO. lol
Screamer pipes sound totally SH*TE!:tard: Loud, annoying and dont really offer any increase in performance so why bother with them?
im loving the sound of them, havent stopped looking at vid's haha

A 1 minute video may sound good but just wait till its blasting youre ears out for the whole journey in the car! Cars jsu passing by with them on are annoyinglollollol

sorry mate but you are wrong :tard: , my ihi rhb5 that im going to be using on my new engine has an internal wastgate but is still seperate from the mane exhaust port

see^, im also going to try a screamer pipe, anybody every heard a diesel with a screamer pipe ???
try a tractor with no manifold on inside a cowshed....... everything else is quiet in comparison.......it would probably sound like a bus letting its air brakes off.

It won't be though unless he's no max boost for every minute of the journey, which is unlikely. [edit] Actually, no you're right, that is very likely lol
/\ lol what you trying to say about my driving :p
I was looking on youtube, theres None, am sure it will sound good though!
Interesting, turbo's is my main sketchy area atm, didn't see a setup like that on anything I looked at, although I figured it might be possible, hence asking plug for a pic of a KKK exhaust housing lol
Is it only me that doesn't think they are anything amazing?
Only heard a few but they've all been meh.

No Benn you arn't alone
as above I'd rather plumb it back into exhaust tbh lol
