MK999
13-02-11, 09:16 PM
May well be but given the choice of that engine and one out of another car that hasn't had the block etc effectively heat treated and possibly even hardened by the fire brigade, and generally of an unknown state, I know what I'd pick?

BRoadGhost
13-02-11, 09:16 PM
Hmmm does the owner use any of the boards?

Was it stolen, crashed & then burn out?

Ok the wheels were all wrong but everything else seemed alright.

Known that car for years.
I know it got sold recently but will be such a shame to end up like that.

Any pics of H1 GTE anybody before it was sold to try to work out if it is it?

Nailed on imo!!!

Mike
13-02-11, 11:15 PM
Dent in the roof is the HiAb arm, they load them onto the bed an drop the arm down till the roof crushes, thus sqaushing the vehicle between arm & load bed, saves having to ratchet strap a soggy burnt out motor down.

Jack
13-02-11, 11:18 PM
Ouch :(

Looks like it was burned rather than crashed - melty windscreen says that to me. I've seen rooflines buckle on cars if the fire's been hot enough, so the wobbly top would make sense. Front wing looks a litle bent in the leading corner though.

Still, who cares how it happened, its a shame it did.

[edit] Just saw Mike's post, hiab arm crush is more likely lol

[edit again]

Good spot. Thats certainly not an OEM Nova lamp

As Mikes post, most round here just bung the HiAb arm down into the roof and dont even cable it down as some do!

Although just to throw a spanner in the works, how far back is the nearside wheel in the arch, and the wing looks like a loon (round) wing, and why does the offside shaft stick up through the bay, methinks there may be accident damage otherside!

Still has the hatch flare. Its just bent.

Thinking about it though, there's no damage to the slam panel or inner wing, so its probably just post-flambé. Looks like the shaft has just been chucked in there.

Edd
13-02-11, 11:43 PM
Just by going on those two pics I'll stand by my comment on it being crashed

As Spud says driveshaft sticking up in the bay, in the same pic the front of the wing where it bolts to the inner is bent half way up, a pic from other side would confirm it or not tho

...........but I could be wrong lol

Unlike some i prefer to deal in facts and dont post potentially liable comments that put the forums future in doubt if the previous owner of the car saw them. I am sure Kev would be delighted seeing people post such idiotic comments on his site and risking potential legal ramifications

Edd the driveshaft can't be from that car, if you look closley you see it's the outer CV and it has no castle nut on it so it must have been unbolted also the rubber boot is fully intact, surley it would never survive a fire, I'd say all the panel damage would have been done during the recovery,

I've seen many many cars suffering damage by recovery from accident sites, at the end of the day a recovery driver ain't going to worry about a 20 year old burnt out nova, plus if it was in a burnt out unit like kev said it's probably been dragged out by force then hyab'd too,

Im very sorry to have offended you with what was intended as a throw-away comment, i didnt realise that as a moderator im no longer allowed to have, nor voice my opinion.

Granted i could/shouldve worded it a little differently as it seems a touch fishy that it has been advertised for sale for quite some time, then disappears in flames....?

The first question an insurance company asks you when you have to report a theft or a loss is 'has it been recently advertised for sale' are they trying to slander you aswell, i think not!

also the plate isnt dead when the car is scrapped if not removed by the owner the plate is the dvlas (all reg's are owned by the dvla at all times when you buy one they still own it you just have the right to put it onn a vehicle) so if not claimed by the previous owner within a certain time scale the title passes back to the dvla and they are free to sell it again if they wish

So's the header tank and other goodies from the engine bay so possibly someone who works there's trying to reincarnate them like a phoenix out of the ashes.

Safely tucked up in alarmed garage :d Text alert if alarm sounds, was thinking of rigging up the mains electric to the garage door handle :d  think the neighbours would be pissed off if their cats were all found in front of my garage tho lol

But the daily often gets left unlocked, you could do me a favour and nick that? lol

Been answered all ready
:)

If you look carefully enough, there is no door lock below the handle.

However if you look on this one, there is....

that will be because filler doesn't flash rust...
