Right, she has been moaning that her 57 plate Corsa SXi is too old lol and the windows are scratched - her fault for using a knackered ice scraper!

So she has signed up for a new Clio. Some gay 'music' model. I forgot the name, don't think it was MTV though? It probably means it has some gay stickers and aux in 'i-Pod connectivity'. Although her Corsa already has said feature. She tells me it is basically the same as a Diamonique. Like I know/care what that already is. Oh well...

I asked what size engine it is. diesel? It's a 1.2 just like the Corsa, the same Corsa she claims is now crap on fuel. I asked what MPG she can expect from the Clio and was met with a look of hatred and disgust! lol "I don't know!" Err... OK! :d It goes without saying that she hasn't even test drove one. This seems alien and ridiculous to her. I know she doesn't care about driving, but surely it's just basic common sense to scope out the driving position and controls layout, visibility etc? lol I imagine it to be painfully slow like the Corsa also. That size of car needs a torquier engine IMO.

This is now the fourth car she has bought new without so much as a test drive. WTF!

The salesman has also told her that this model won't be being replaced for ten years! lol lol lol. Surely the '197' shape has already been out for at least 3 years? I make it 2/3 years max before it is completely replaced. Has this shape already been facelifted?

I like these Clio's. 197's and diesels. The rest aren't worthwhile IMO.

I'm a bit p!ssed off, as all I was trying to do was help her. lol As usual though, my car related opinions aren't valid unless it needs a service or somethng replaced!

i sell cars and youl be amazed at the amount of folk that dont test drive cars or even sit in them lol

I can believe it mate. They're the type of people whodon't think you should enjoy being comfortable in a car and that they are all the same inside I guess. All that matters is how 'cute' they are and how low the tax is. lol

She then for no reason had a go at my ancient car. I just laughed. As we all know, it's not about having the newest plate on any old POS! I actually like my car getting older.

I bet those queer folk make your job a lot easier though mate! lol

ive bought every car ive had without test driving them, then again, mine aren't brand new...

does seem rather silly to buy a car without test driving it, especially if its brand new/a huge wadge of cash

The 197 has had a facelift so I would imagine that the rest of the range has too lol

Women buying cars normally ends in a fail tho

IMO new cars are a complete waste of cash, loads of cash lost when you leave the forcourt and fall to bits when the warranty runs out lol

........ Pics of sister ? :d lol

I was gonna say ne pics but didn't think I had to on this forum :p lol

I agree to an extent when secondhand, or if you have driven it before and it's cheap (eBay etc) Then again, bidding to buy not to view is BS. I went miles to a see a 2dr Nova and it was a shed. Told him to GTF.

The Clio will be faclifted btw it will be whatever the current shape is. I just mean if they're planning on keeping it for 10 years and they have changed it already someone was telling porkies. Surprise surprise! lol

Only mugs buy new cars!

That will be the 'I-music' clio then Liamp, not overly slow for someone who doesnt care about them but about as slow as your average 'ps3-esque' computer on wheels is these days, if fuel economy is her aim she really shouldve gone for a clio diesel (the current shape is the clio III, and iirc it hasnt been facelifted as yet btw) they will do upwards of 65mpg with ease and are in the tax bracket where the government just about pay you to drive the fecking thing:cry:

L14MNP
12-02-11, 04:09 PM
Yep. My mates sister has a diesel one in the current shape. The previous one delivered epic MPG and plenty of torque too. My sis fails. Interesting about the facelift. I'm sure it's coming then. Which will be even funnier when this one is 'old' in a year or two! lol

i-music. That's the one! What's so special over a Diamonique/other poverty sh!tter then? You're the man in the (Re)nault when it comes to these things, and I CBA to search. :d

that current shape clio has been out since the 54 plate and was facelifted in 2010 so its got about 3 years left , some ones talking BS lol

People like her are the sole reason the Automotive industry hasn't imploded on itself.

Makes me laugh the people who think newer car = better. My mum thought a P reg Celica AT200 was worth more than my N reg ST205 because its "newer" :tard:

^^ this is true. I went with my sister to a mini dealer to buy a used model and they seemed suprised with my bargaining - there were other (quite hot) women there just buying them like a bottle of perfume; 'see the one you like and just get on the the finance bit so i can go' kinda thing.

That would be you then, how do you register a clio III that came out in 2006, on a 54 plate?

I recently got an astra j 1.4 turbo as a motability car and even though I wasn't handing over a load of cash I still test drove it checked every nook and cranny like it was a used car lol loaded it up in the middle of the showroom with all the junk that usually goes in my cars. I don't think the salesman appreciated it lol

This 'motability' scheme is a pisstake to be honest... It gets abused badly, and no matter how disabled someone is why should they be entitled to a new car?!! :wtf:

my neice has one of those clio diesels, it is a very good car, massive interior compared to the exterior (opposite of the bmw mini), definitely nippier than a 1.2 nova, and as previously said, it runs on fresh air.

Because it keeps the car industry going by shifting new cars :tard:

Don't they do a 1.2 turbo Clio, or is that my imagination?

mowgli
13-02-11, 11:36 AM
a mate nearly bought a new mini. he took his wife & kids to test drive one, and they loved it, and fitted in it perfectly.... that was the moment when sanity kicked in.... there was not a scrap of growing room in it, so they would have to get rid in 6 months....he has a SEAT td, and loves it.

when bmw owned rover, the motoring press complained bitterly that the rover 75 was a 5 series on the outside & a 3 series on the inside & how bmw didn't do this with their own products......................................

There is more to it that just being disabled, its to help people with transport, help people who otherwise couldnt, to be able to get out, its for seriously ill people who need constant hospital visits and may not be using the hospital in their own town due to specialist facilities, its not always a disabled driver who gets the car, a lot of the time its designated drivers who do all the driving for the qualifying party, and its not just motab cars that get abused these days, pretty much all cars these days (newer ones anyways) seem to be regarded as disposable and are therefore treated as such, shame really as when you look at us all messing about with 25+ year old cars that we have had/loved since youth, what are todays youth going to have, cos i cant see any new 'disposable' cars making it to 25 years old!

Don't they do a 1.2 turbo Clio, or is that my imagination?

Yes they do, also a twingo using the same engine, 1.2 16v turbo, makes around 100bhp @ the fly:thumb:

Even though my nan is on that motability scheme thing, I do think its a bit of mickey take sometimes. She gets a brand new car every 3 years...and for what reason?! the car she has doesnt suddenly fall apart at the 3 year mark. They have always had brand new golfs but this year they got the new astra.... They no likie. Back to Golfs in 3 years. lol

I am aware of the genuine cases, where a subsidy from the Government can be given. But the fact is that a lot of people shouldn't be entitled to one... I know someone who has back problems and would be entitled to a mobility car if she passed her test. The back problems stem from her being 25+ stone and yes thats just from overeating and lack of exercise

Same with everything in life so why get annoyed particularly at the motab scheme, there is housing benefit, child benefit alsorts that genuinely gets abused!

Im ashamed to say that when I was with my ex, we bought a brand new car straight off the forecourt. we only saw it online and never test drove it.

Was a big mistake financially but fun while we had it.

Seriously, why would you even want to do that, what if you got there and found the pedals were shockingly positioned and you couldnt use just one and ended up mashing all three together and hoping for the desired result to happen?

I know Spud, anyway.... lol

Lad I work with changes his car every 3 years and usually buys them 18 months to 2 years old. He's always taking piss out of me for driving old cars. His last repair bill for a wiring fault was £10 less than what I paid for my whole car which in the 4 months I have had it have only changed a rear bulb. Yeh seems like a right investment :wtf: lol

And here proves my argument of older cars over newer cars, weve had a T plate Scenic in our workshop for a new alt this week, the guy is going to be looking at about a £500 bill, my alt died the other week on my K reg Cav SRi (xe) and i got mine replaced with a brand new item, fitted £46 lol

As we all know. Old cars don't die. They just get lower and faster.

motability is linked with disability living allowance... a friends mum qualified for it, and my friend was the listed driver.... her mum physically couldn't drive & needed taking to healthcare appointments.

Correct this is the case for me and my son. Regarding the 3 year thing this is so they can still be sold as nearly new and the company then makes more money. (3 year resale value plus 3 years of it being rented at £52 week (this is the mobility payment of disability living allowance which is used to pay for the car)).

I know this, we supplied a Megane III to a guy who didnt even have a licence as his case qualified him for it and he designated two drivers local to him, what i meant was if she was entitled to motab, she would have it, it wouldnt depend on her passing her test:roll:
