not a miss print i am going on about the c16xe. just been reading the new tv mag and it say SBD can get 240 bhp out of them at 10,000 rpm:eek:. is this true and how much money has to be spent. it got to be a fear few thousand.

theres a couple putting out around the 260bhp mark... to get 240bhp you are looking between £10-12,000

Unless you do a Baxter.

But these engines are built for competition use, so Baxter's engine would be in the over 2.0 class :p

I'm guessing the SBD ones are n/a engines? Throttle bodies h/c pistons mad cams etc etc ?

Obviously the price on most of these engines is in machining and labour though, as per anything, sure you could build one for far far less using your own parts! Unless it's got a proper job 4x scavenge dry sump system, as from what I can see the parts for that run you about £3000 lol I'd expect more than 240 out of it if they went that far though.

Actually that seems pretty fair, and labour costs are only about a 5th... surprising how it adds up lol

Personally, Id rather give my hard earned pound notes over to the likes of Motorsport Services, Toovey Race Engines, JRE Racing etc etc then the brand name that is SBD.

But again, thats merely a personal preference.

Obviously where possible yes, but trying to find say, the original manufacturer of the dry sump kit for example, could prove hard. Whereas walking straight into the Jenvey factory in Kidderminster on the other hand, thats nice & simple (and about 20 mile from me :) )

I was thinking something more subtle like a crowbar, you know try to not get caught lol

edit: As for the power debate it depends who built it/what it is, tbh I have no doubt you could extract somewhere itro 350-400 from them with enough revs and the kind of expertise that leads into F1, but for average joe this would cost you 4x what it costs the teams to do lol

Bolt a turbo on it and depends just how well you can make everything that bolts onto it, sky is the limit basically.

mike - how come the specs on there website are virtually copied from the clark motorsport website and the prices? noticed it last time i had a look on there site....seems abit iffy thats all?:S

Ive got no idea about specs/prices Philip, its just a company we've used before, same as Shenpar, they have similiar specs to other well known companies with similiar prices too, I just put it down to being competitive (business wise) an a formula that works sucessfully.

philip
12-02-11, 12:27 PM
ah just when i had a look through the 2 sites some of the specs of who you suggest are identical to clark and even have cms cams, etc on the spec sheets. but i know theres pretty much a known spec to work off depending on what powers wanted etc, just paying for the experiance of the engine builder then:D

A lad who used to rally with us in the BTRDA used to have a 200hp 1.4 16v thing Neil Weaver. It used to rev and rev and rev. We too used to run a silly powered 1400 bowyer engine in a 106 then it through 3 rods when it hydrauliced at Weeton :tard:

Small block valver FTW!
But.. The T.V mag engine guide tuning part at least is a bit poor; no effort seems to have gone into it, has to be said.
Im sure everyones' seen that adaptation from another mag on the SBD website - thats all the tuning guide for these engines youll ever need.

No, it was Martyn lewis, he competed in the 1400 btrda rally Championship. He knew how to peddle a nova!!

Merely the pub bragging right of having similiar brake hamsters from smaller cc's compared to say the retail price of a brand new 3.2 Vec GSi lol

Same price, cheaper tax (?), arguably better MPG lol
