follow the guide in your haynes book......i hope you have one..

basically, on the shifter box, there is a little black rubber bung, remove it, then move the linkage to somewhere near the neutral between 1st & 2nd. the drill shank should now slide in & lock the gearbox. now get underneath the car & undo the clamp bolt on the rod (13mm) then move the gearstick to between 1st & 2nd & wedge it in place. the get the clamp bolt done up tight... remove the drill, replace the bung & try it out. repeat or replace rubbers if necessary

put gearstick in neutral position then make sure the 13mm bolt on the linkage that clamps onto the rod is loose.

go into engine bay and depending on what box is on yours you will have to remove the little brown/orange plug as you look down onto the top of the box, if it had a spring around it then you have to grab the the linkage and turn it clockwise ( i think) and push on the plug until it locks in, if you dont have the spring around the plug then you will have to insert the allen key then release the linkage so it locks into position. then get a mate to hold the gearstick in te neutral position in between 1st and 2ndthe tighten up the 13mm bolt then release the plug or remove the allen key and hey presto.

Sounds hard but its a piece of piss no haynes manual?

It is definitely easier to get someone to sit in the car and hold the lever in the right place while you tighten the clamping bolt on the selector rod :thumb:
