Thinking about one of these (XSi) or a Rallye as a replacement to the Nova.. Its pretty nippy with 100bhp and should be cheap to run and has awesome handling etc :D

What y'all reckon? Should i go for it if so which one XSi or Rallye (essentially the same car just rallye handles slightly better but has no elec windows etc)

Can get either for ?1,300 8)

Ah but whos to say the Nova wont become a project car  i'm not getting rid of the SR just want something faster and more reliable for daily use then next summer the SR will be back with a vengence! :D :D

The 106Gti got highly rated on 5th gear a while back. Not sure how different the Rallye is to the Gti, if it handles the same as the Gti then go for that.

don't get the xsi get the rallye. the xsi is a 1.4 the rallye is a 1.3 both engines have the same output (100bhp) but the rallye has better suspension and weighs far less, pluss it revs to about 7 1/2 rpm :D

Yeah i deffo prefer the rallye its just this car may have to do alot of miles on long journeys etc i was thinking the rallye may get a bit tiresome, whereas the XSi has all the comfort thrown in too and is only fractionally slower....

No offence but your mate must be one pants driver if you can beat him in an SR.....

An XSi would runs rings around any standard GSi nevermind SR....

both cars XSi/GSi have same output - 100bhp

they are both roughly around the same size and weight

the novas prolly slightly lighter and prolly has more torque cos of the 1600 vs 1400

WHY THE FUCK would the pug run rings around it

it MIGHT match it - but i doubt even that - especially at high speeds since the 1600's torque would begin to win out

Craig SR
13-06-03, 11:28 PM
Theres more to life than going in a straight line you know....

Pug handles soo much better and has fatter tyres and better brakes therefore seeya later on anything that remotely resembles a corner.

So thats why the fcuk an XSi would watse a GSi

RobHardyUK
13-06-03, 11:41 PM
dnt handle as good as the GTI tho :P

Dannova12
14-06-03, 12:34 AM
I put your theory to the test today, saying a XSi would waste a Gsi. I had a go with my m8 in his xsi and me in my 1400sr. We raced both from a standing start. I must admit it was close but i started to pull from him in 2nd. We also raced around a circuit of roundabouts near us and the pug constantly understeered really badly.

Any way i also took into account that you said he may be a crap driver, so we did the races again, same on the standing straight line start but i got closer to him in the pug then he was.

Just warning, you wont waste gsi's!

U want somehing quick for fuck all money buy an astra GTE 16v!!

Craig SR
14-06-03, 12:24 PM
Is your SR standard?

Mine is and i cant touch them and i know how to get the best from a car in both a straight line and around the corners.

I have driven several XSi's and a Rallye and believe me there is no comparison to the SR.

a mate used to have a 1300 ralleye and it was pokey but not excessively quick, good fun to drive though

That just proves my point that ur m8 cant drive.

ok, get the xsi then,

dont know why u bothered posting if u seem that set on getting one, but dont come crying to us when u keep getting ur pants ripped down!!!

LOL :)

If you cant afford insurance on a GTi or similar you thought about a 1.4 Quicksilver? Apart from that out of the two you said i would go with the SXI as i bet they are a bit cheaper but has leccy windows etc.

Craig SR
18-06-03, 11:31 AM
Quicksilver's are just too slow.

Only got a lowly 75bhp like the 1.4SR ie very slow car.

Not that set on getting one, just proving that Nova's are far from fast cars!

IMO the fact you can waste your mate is more down to you being a much more capable driver than he is, rather than the ability of the cars. :)

Besides i am still keeping my 1.4SR, just by the time i've finished with it, it will be twice as fast!

Just considering the pug as a car to use in the meantime: ie fun to drive, nippy and cheap to run.

I'd go for the 106, ever considered a rallye? Wasted many Novas in it. Its a 1600 8v so very torquey. I'd waste any std Nova anyone could put up against me 8)

lol

shame the 106 came out about 5 year or so before the saxo.

also, my 106 is reliable. its done 103K miles on an 'n' plate ( 20K of those in last year) and its not using a drop of anything it shouldnt, no oil leaks. starts 1st time every time etc...

The saxo and the 106 are the same car underneath the body, check the vts and the pug gti, got the same 1.6 16v engine 120hp

my mates got a 1400 8v pug 306

parked the car up at night - came out the next day and it wouldnt start, no sparks, no fuel, nothing

the ECU had died for NO reason what so ever and left him with a ?500 bill from pug to fix it

then pug had the cheek to tell him he'd have to wait a month for the ECU

he ended up paying a local car electronics place about ?250 for a clone ECU and gave pug it to fit

aint exactly reliable and its slow as fuck - but then it is a 306

and while im on the topic - his electric window mechanism snapped today leaving him with no method of closing the window - good stuff

If you get yourself a rallye they do away with most electricals like leccy windows power steering, airbag etc to save weight. end result is that my 1600 8v weighs 890kg with 103brake and 100lb ft torque. And its rapid :)

306 Rallye next though :D until i can afford an M3
