right, if there is a spambot having a good old go a tthe forum and there is more than one post from said 'user' and if its got a reported comment below it. DO NOT REPORT EVERY SODDING POST THE BOT MAKES!!!!!!

Any reports after the first one WILL wind up with a 7 day sin bin.

Yes its naziish but I'm getting hacked off with millions emails about the same fecking bot/spammer. I could turn off the report emails yes, but then all of us nazis could and then the place will be nastily over run with rubbish.

So work with us to work with you please.

Use some common sense.

I guess thats lacking today..... :wall:

IF ITS OBVIOUSLY A SPAM BOT THEN THERE IS ONLY NEED FOR ONE REPORT INSTANCE. WE WILL GO AND FIND ANY OTHER POSTS BY SAID BOT AND DELETE THEM ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!
Irritating users just need the one report too.

I have also hassled Kev regarding fixing this too.

There is a flaw in this though, if the spammer spams a few threads/forums then its still going to get reported numerous times because people wont see the other reported threads if someone posts in a thread in the same forum pushing the spammed one down.

So basically what you're asking us to do Stu, is check every post the spammer has made (click profile view posts) to make sure no one else has reported a post of theirs, then report it.

Which if someone else is doing that at the same time will end up in someone being banned.

Nazi admin fail ?

Spudly
06-02-11, 11:48 AM
I know exactly what Stu means, i woke up to ten emails merrily bleeping away on my bramble, and there were only five threads i think, what Stu means is most times you will get the same thread reported two or three times, yes if there are five threads we may get five emails but ten means each one has been reported twice:p

i was just about to say this.
and what if one person has reported, hasnt seen this thread, and doesnt write reported.

then southie comes along and writes reported and reports it, who gets the ban stick. southie for being helpful or the newb for not seeing this post...

I understand what Stu is saying too, but unless someone checks every post the spammer makes then, as Stu puts its, someone will be banned.

I can see this putting people off reporting spam even more, I know I cant be arsed with a 7 day sin bin for trying to help.

Southie

I'll still report spam if no ones put "reported" after it, I know it's supposed to encourage a way into the site for spambots but to me this is all a lose lose situation, basically if I get a ban for this so be it tbh, it's only the fecking internet.

Stuart

There are lots of what if's in life...

We have to look through a persons posts to remove all instances, so it dosent take someone else long to look before reporting :p

I know there are a million flaws an in all solutions, eg saying reported brings them back, not reporting makes the place untidy, everyone reporting spams then we get spammed to death via email.

Seeing that screen shot Spud, brings me back to what i have always said. Surely a review of how new members are activated needs to be done?? Would that cure the amount of spam?

Spudly
06-02-11, 02:01 PM
It depends on what we could do as i think the idea has been to stay away from admin activation for members or anything like that as it means you can sign up one day and if there are no admin present, then you may not be activated for a while, i know when i signed up to ctor, there was only one guy who activated everyone, and he works away on rigs i think, five months it took to be activated, i was put out by this so never really bothered to post on there lol

Pistol Pete
06-02-11, 02:02 PM
But there are quite a few of you....lol you could be selective in who you activate aswell!!

Spudly
06-02-11, 02:06 PM
I think if we did do that then it would be an admin only power tbh, and that lessens the people who could/would do it, and unfortunately you cant tell from a username and or location who is going to be a spakker and how isnt, oh sorry you meant spammers right lol

Hobbit

As has been said, we get about 1000 new members a day. You need Admin rights to approve new users, and there's only 5 of us if you include Ian, 6 with Stu. Even if Mods could do it, it still would mean a delay before people can get on and there's always the chance we'd miss some legit ones, especially if nobody is on for a few hours. Imagine post-VBOA, 2-3 days with no admin/mods, we'd have a new user list the size of Stuart's bumhole lol

i still say, what if someone is just doing a good deed. and hasnt seen this post. it would mean in good user being banned, which is stupid.
You're missing the point of this thread.

spammer ahoy in temporary testing lol

Just to add my opinion, the spam on here properly fukks me off, i come on here to browse nova-age, it annoys be a little when i find spam in wips. I do report quite a bit, but use my common sense and only do it once. (ok i am guilty of starting a few uneccesary spam threads) I do understand where stuart is coming from though as i to would be peed off with the constant barrage of emails. It is my personal opinion that the spam issue needs addressing, Perhaps appoint a new mod just to sort the spam? :)

Sorry for the late reply on this (been at work 13:30-22:30)

I understood what was said and what it meant, but what I meant is, if the spammer has spammed, say, three different forums and, say, three members are viewing them three forums at the same time and each report the posts withing minutes of each other, then people are going to end up being banned.

I can understand the frustration from staff in having their in-boxes full of "reported post" mails but if, as I said, three people report posts within minutes or seconds (unlikely I know) of each other then people will end up with an unfair ban.

I do have sympathy for the staff having to deal with some of the crap that goes on here (scammers, idiots posting in temp testing, people like me) which may put them in a foul mood then having to deal with petty crap and thinking, **** you, you **** BAN, I'm forgetting what I wanted to say as the Polish beer has just headbutted me but I think I've said what I wanted to.

If not, sorry, long, arduous, crap days in a **** job followed by potent beer is bad for the brain.

Wouldn't it be better if no one reported spam at all ?
And get kev to do the extra registry bit ?
Then no bans are needed ?

I'm on here quite alot and tbh one of the mods/admin are normally on here all the time if not a few hours later, then the spam is cleared

MattBrown

Can certain (responsible) members be given the powers to "quarenteen" posts?

Temp remove them, for a mod to look at and decide weather to delete or reput into the thread?

Just give them the power to do that, not loads.

Nononono. Three separate people reporting the same thread at the same time (or even at different times), fair enough. What we're saying is, if the spammer has more than one post, one person shouldn't report EVERY post of theirs.
