Well finally iv got hold of a saloon..

Some of you may remember a thread i put up about a saloon that trebled its sale price in 4 weeks...

Tbh i was p!ssed off about the money the guy wanted for it at the time.. but last night i contacted the bloke offering him some monies, he thought about it and accepted my offer at 10.30pm

However the car was 62 miles away from me and i had no way of getting there! But me and our lass decided to get a taxi of all things to take us on our mission lol we arrived at 12am and i must say i am extremely pleased with the car.

A87PTM 1.2 gl nova saloon in white
Its got every single peice of history to go with the car
47 thousand genuine miles
Full butterscotch interior thats awsome!!
Original vauxhall fitted alarm system that works lol

Theres a few minor signs of rust just coming through the rear arches but everywhere else is absolutely mint!

I would get some pics up but its been raining like a bitch here all day and the pics will not do it justice,, so pics will hopefully be up tomorow.

I do however need a passenger side door strip and a original casette player to really finish the car off so if anyone has these items i have cash waiting :thumb:

Im pretty sure the wheels on it are sr steels thow? i brought a different set of sr's so now i have 10 sat here lol

5 will be standard/winter wheels 5 will be banded :)

As for the interior..... i fooking love it! theres a minute sign of bolster wear on the drivers side but nothing bad. I wont be changing anything on the inside im even keeping the casette player in there (when i get one) no subs, amps or 6x9s going in!

All the service history leads me to believe they are the standard dials matey.. It's got full heaters not pov spec! Door cappings that I thought was only gsi/gte? Everything is original lol

I was just asking about the wheels novakid just wasn't sure lol

The remote box is for the vauxhall dealer fitted alarm system, it works of an issued fob and fully works bonnet boot and doors lol

i never understood the point of having the backs made wider, just looks odd imo

Count Vaux Alot
08-02-11, 09:11 PM
8's and 9's are going to be very wide with a stupid neg offset so you may not be able to go as low as you want esp on the rear due to poke even with stretched tyres

Danb1987
08-02-11, 09:18 PM
Neg offset? Count iv never really understood what the affects of offset does??

Basicly neg = \ / pos = / \ ??

Stolen from retro rides >>LINK<< (http://retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=usetharch&action=display&thread=38107)

Its a start on the explanation to banding

Steel wheels - To understand banding you must first understand the construction of steel wheels.

They are usually constructed from 2 main parts, the rim and the centre. The rim is manufactured from sheet steel that is ‘spun’ into the correct shape. The centre is also made from sheet steel but is usually pressed into shape. Material thickness varies between types and sizes of wheel but most of the car wheels I have come across are made from steel between 2.5mm and 4mm thick. The thickness of the rim and centre may be different!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/wheelconstruction.jpg
x-section of a wheel showing centre in red, rim in black and the possible location of some spot welds

The rim is usually joined to the centre by large spot welds but occasionally by a manually welded joint (MIG etc.). Sometimes rivets are present but these are only there to align the rim and centre before it is welded and are not really there to form any kind of permanent load bearing joint.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/DSCF0309.jpg
2 spot welds and rivet

So what is a banded wheel?
I would define it as any wheel that has been cut around its rim and has had a band of metal welded in to make the rim wider.

So How’s it done?

Well first you need to work out how wide and what offset they need to be. Usually you can just add a metal band into the outer section of the rim which will increase both the width and the offset. If your really picky and want to change the offset and width by a different amount then you either have to weld in 2 bands, one on each side of the centre or move the centre in relation to the rim which means you need 2 sets of wheels, one for the rim and one for the centre.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/wheelbanded.jpg
Adding a band to the outer part of the rim increases width and offset

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/wheelbanded3.jpg
To change width and offset by a different amount out a band in and relocate the centre (2 sets of wheels needed)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/wheelbanded2.jpg
The same outcome done the dodgy way by using 2 bands! 2 bands = twice the chances of getting it wrong imo!

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v469/slater3333uk/wheelbanded4.jpg
the cheeky way using 2 wheels and no band.

Also received plenty of underseal..

And I'm waiting for new discs, pads, rear shoes, goodridge orange brake lines, new copper brake pipes 4x new tyres and some other nit bits...

My wheels were sent to be banded on tuesday so should hopefully be getting them back next weekend. I decided to go 8.5j and 8j powdercoated either red or white.

Next week I aim to get most of the parts for the x16xe rebuild.

Aslo started attacking the surface rust today before it sets in however i didnt take any photos.

Managed to get a door stip aswell that should be here next week then im gonna take all the red pinstriping off and replace it with minty fresh stuff!

That is one cracking Nova, mate :thumb:

Loving the original GM alarm..

And the 752 stereo..

Note: If you ever lose your code, flip the metal cover off to expose the printed circuit (keep radio connected to car's electrics)..

Slacken the two retaining screws holding the chrome strip over the printed circuit..

Switch radio on and tap the chrome strip (watching the display)..

Takes a while but eventually radio will 'bleep' and code will overridden..

This will be fine until the next time you disconnect/go flat, then simply repeat..

Sorry to hi-jack but it's a handy tip..

Did dozens, years ago...:thumb:

Plans are to get it on the engine stand (when I get some bolts that are long enough)

It needs a new clutch but I'm going to change the cambelt and waterpump while its out then strip it down and get it looking mint! :thumb:

whats the difference ?

Danb1987

The c16xe uses a air flow meter and the x16xe uses a map sensor... Plus the x16 you have to have the ecu key chip and transponder from the same car.

going a head with turbo then, i take it you will be getting rid of standard inlet for powerbox jobbie ?

Danb1987
31-05-11, 11:04 PM
Yeah I managed to pick the turbo up at half decent money lol

The guy who sells them on eBay says he will make one with the inlet at the other side for me aswell, itl make routing the intercooler easier :)

Mieran
31-05-11, 11:09 PM
You can get twin pass intercoolers if you want but making tb at other end probably be better because you have more room at that side

Danb1987
31-05-11, 11:11 PM
I was looking at twin sided intercoolers but my mates just changed one on his astra for a normal better flowing one.

I have a reversed powerbox inlet that I may be tempted to sell ;)

The turbos are cheap for what they are, Easy to resell too.

Also, even with a oil filter kit your need to put a notch in the downpipe I worked out, Not ideal but heyho.

calibra-keith

what turbo setup is it off ? corsa vxr or something else ?
