We've all read the 1.2 Turbo thread on Projects, and how we all loved the idea, until it kind of just stopped.

I've thought about it enough to want to do it, and in reality it should be cheap enough to set about.

So lets throw some ideas into this thread about how everyone would acheive a safe turbo-charged tiny-block engine.

Looking at the following myself, for first try and old-school mechanicals:

R5 GTT Carb (ease of tuning & using adaptor plate onto Vauxhall inlet)
Small Turbo (off a Saab or similar) (CHEAP PETROL TURBO SUGGESTIONS WANTED)

Need suggestions on lowering C.R to a safe level for running boost?
- Space Plate
- Pocketing pistons
- Use of different crank and rods (SPI iirc, need to check strokes)

I know "if you need to ask, you dont have the expertise". I've thought about it a lot, and to be honest have a good idea of what I should be throwing together, but I'm not a turbo expert, and would like to know all your opinions.

there is a 1.2 turbo on ebay, buy it ;)

As stuart will say when he comes along, You could run very low boost on standard compression. Which makes sence since it will still be 1.2 quick off the boost, and then you wont need lots of pressure to gain XX amount of BHP.

If you wanted to lower the compression, I don't think you can run a shorter stroke using standard parts. I worked out it would work on a 1.6 using 1.2/1.4 stuff, but obvious no good for you.

If it was me doing it, I'd prob use 1.4MPI inlet etc to run it on injection.

I have a Courtenay converted 1300

Pistons are GM low comp ones
Courtenay manifold
T2 turbo ( looks very similar to mates R5 one )

I need to investigate what management to run with my Irmscher injection kit

Aye T2 would be a good choice, Fiesta Turbo uses them... I would also use a 1400MPi with aftermarket ECU Matt, far better gains to be had for your money.

Just throwing it out there, it way well be wrong but, if a 1.2 head on a 1.4 increases compression, would a 1.4(MPI) head decrease the compression on the 1.2 block? Also, by using the MPI head you could use the standard management from it and still run your turbo, obviously ungrading to a Stand Alone set up when funds, know how permit and you're happy with your set up.

IIRC you would want to use a 1600 mpi head as it would lower the compression enough to run some boost.

as in colin novarally's hill climber, a 1.2 sleeved down to 1.0, with a 1.6 top end & manifolds... then the clever management was fitted.

1.2 block,
1.6 head,
1.3 manifold and match to the ports of the head
webber 34/32 turbo tech carb,
T2 turbo,
intercooler,
pipework
DONE lol

Baxter, the Weber 34/32, is that what the R5 uses?

The only real cost would be in a decent exhaust manifold and turbo, I'd use a cheap steel spacer plate to lower the cr

no its what the old school xr feza use, + they bolt to the 1.3 manifold with the adaptor :thumb:

As baxter said..

Also a Metro Turbo 1 3/4 SU would work well with a 1300 inlet and a 90 degree adapter pipe

And maybe a Metro turbo or uno turbo Turbo ?

I wish we saw this before we fitted cbr carbs to are Pinto engined kit car :(

Wasn't that a Weber 32/34??

Weber 32/34 with xr2 turbo technics plenum has to be the easiest method

No you don't. The bike carbs are far better than some lashed up, homebrew turbo set up lol

So, just to completely Hijack the thread (sorry dude) The Turbo feed goes into the carb, by some sort of adapter plate or Powah Cap style intake?

Yeah,an xr2 turbo technics plenum fits a weber 32/34

Do we even need a force fed carb? Can the old 1b take some pressure?
