View Full Version : Wilwood 4 Pot Brake Setup

Daved and Confused

Hi All,

Looking for some advice and opinions for a brake setup using Wilwood Calipers on the front and standard drums on the rear.
I'm not sure what servo / mastercylinder to use. I have an SR Servo / mastercylinder and a bias adjustable pedal box but have heard / read that the bias setup can give a heavy pedal. I would rather have a lighter more initially responsive feel to the pedal but I'm only going on what I have read. So any opinions appreciated.

Cheers

I have Willwodds on mine front and cavy rear disks with bias valve but they do work good with drums. Willwood thread sizes US so I got mine from Rally design as they include front braided hose. Consider bias valve though as well

Hi

I use 4 pots up front, 2 pots on the rear & a Bias pedal box & its not heavy.
You have to modify the pivot point on the pedal to get the 'Pedal ratio' up then its not heavy.

You shouldn't need anything more than drums on the back, so forget what they are, it's the pedal/master cylinder setup that you should concentrate on.
Martin's point about the pivot point is key to getting a nice pedal, though with any "proper" braking system, it'll be heavier than a shopping car setup.

I have no servo on either of my two big V8 race cars, and they stop seriously well. What you want is good feel, which a servo will mask. You need more control over your right foot, and a servo will allow you to over-do it far too easily, leading to lock-ups and the issues that surround that (flat spotted boots, or just plain simple off road excursions!)

It's not so much as a heavy pedal, but a hard one, because there isn't a cushion there with the servo/standard setup.

The choice of friction material is important too. Three things to avoid. E, B & C.

PAGID or Performance Friction are good.
