Ive had lots of discussions at home and down the pub of when do your points actually come off..... for insurance...... on your paper part........ or just in genral when do they come off lol

On your paper part they don't come off for 4 years but they don't count after 3 years which is strange. But for insurance as far as im aware they count them for 5 years i maybe wrong

Technically they never actually come off your paper license unless you apply for a new one after 3 years where there no longer written on there. :P

or you change address

They are valid for 3 years, can be removed from your paper part after 4 years, and most insurance ask for anything in the 5 years

IIRC they don't count after 3 years, and you can apply to have them taken off after 4 years...

Or you have to renew your licence after 10 years and the points are spent

I did acquire ( many many moons ago) 9 points on my provisional for being naughty in my biking days......

I stupidly had a blast of a mates DTR 125.....got caught and done for no insurance by the police!!

4 years it stayed on for.

Write to the DVLA and ask them basically, I think it costs you but not sure.

Just replace the license. Doesn't matter if the points are written on there though, if they're expired then the license is "clean".

3 years for totting up
4 years til expiry
5 years for insurance.

So for example, if you win 6 points in January 2005, then score a further 6 in February 2008, you won't automatically lose your license under totting up. But you would still have 12 points.

So how long do convictions take to come off? I have 3.....

Insurance companies don't ask for them after 5years so do I just not declare them?

It's been 5 years next feb

4 years to come off, but as said insurance need to know about anything from up to 5 years ago. So you still need to declare yours up til next feb.

Change of address is meh... as said, it doesn't matter if you have the points written on there, if they've expired then the license is clean. Anyone who did a check with the police databases would still see the points and that they've expired. So the physically "clean" license is a mere technicality.

i thought insurance (IN10) was on for 10years?? i change address' that often its irrelevant anyway lol

ive been waiting untill 2nd week in feb to swap my address so it comes back 'cleansed'

failing that, its worth paying the lost license fee to clear mine lol
