Will a big fancy gsi cam work with a 1.2 head and 1.4 block ?

Carb engine btw be running with twin 40's

yes.. i don't think there will be a fuel pump lobe, so it might need an external fuel pump.

I have a 1200 cam with meahcnical fuel pump.

And a 1600 GTE Cam.

Could i not remove the cams and swap the GTE cam into the 1200 carrier with mechanical pump, and that would work ?

What would the difference be anyway, more HP/torque ? what..

the std injection cams don't have the pump lobe, afaik.. also, its a 1200 so maybe 2hp, or hardly worth it.

lewi no point modding 1.2 i can get a kent cam and vernier pulley cheap but am just going drop a 1.6 8v in mine and tune that up a little

I had issues with bottoming out valve springs using a wizzy cam in a small block 8v, more so on a 1600 I think it was something to do with the length of the valve stem in relation to the movement allowed on the origional valve springs. Kent springs sorted it though. Regards to the fuel pump if you go for a ast2 or similar the lobe is on there, only the injection cams dont have the lobe.

Not necessarily any more HP / torque; it could be less. Cam profile is matched to the engine characteristic (as determined by CC, compression ratio, valve sizes etc). It's not a simple case of bigger is better.

All of this reminds me of the "Tech Talk" letters that were in an ancient tuning magazine (in the days where the swap would have been Daimler 420 Hemi V8 into a Ford Granada), and it was forever filled with people asking questions like this. The best (put-down) answer was :

What you really need is a 1/4" SU with a No.9 knitting needle.

The easier, and best solution for road use, is more cubes (or blow it!). Screaming peaky nutjob engines are really only any use on the track where you run balls out. On the road they are a bloody nightmare. It sounds great, but you look a right cock when you've stalled your twin-carbed cammed up engine at the lights and the beeeeatch refuses to fire (and floods!).
