Hi,

I had an accident last year and i have since built the bike back up to roadworthy status!

I was told by Bikers Legal Defence that all i would need to do is get the bike re MOT'ed and re Insured and it would be road legal again.

Does anybody know if this is correct because i have no Write off cirtificate or anything and how would the MOT station know, would it matter?

I just want to make sure that this is all it needs!

This is in england btw!

Thank you in advance.

Nath

AFAIK there wont be any problems, just go to your mot as normal and nothing will be said and all is normal.

However, if it was a Cat C then when you apply for the logbook they may ask you to attend a VIC check.

CAT C needs a V.I.C
CAT D doesnt
just go get it insured and mot it as usual

yes as said, mot and insure it, technically you should reapply for a new logbook but seeing as its in your name anyhow wont make any odds as its a cat d so wont show on there anyhow.

i guess it was recorded by the insurance company? if so, when its MOTed it will have 'seriously damaged marker' checked on the VT40. makes no odds really, just confirms the testers suspicions if something appears to be badly repaired

Shouldnt have a seriously damaged mark for a cat d as cat d is not seriously damaged thats cat c, cat d means mostly that the write off was economically viable but the 5 year warranty on insured work was not.

but it was still damaged and written off by the insurer, so the marker appears on the VT40. And the owner of the vehicle doesn't get/see the VT40, so can't see if its got a marker anyway :thumb:

Ok just none of my cat d's have ever shown a marker on the mot system.

we had a van cat d written off for sucking some water in.... it filled the intercooler & stalled it, but the accident specialists seemed certain the engine was dead, but oddly never lifted the bonnet...... so when we got it home & had a look at it, it magically ran.... so i quick phone call to the insurers later, and the cat d mysteriously disappeared.

When the flooded cars come up they usually run again i had a 2005 mondeo tdci and done 50k miles on the flooded engine, they write them off as they cant guarentee in 5 years time the floors wont fall out.

three pints from a puddle up the inlet are hardly going to rot a floor

but they dont know that its not sat in the water for 3 weeks, my brother in law worked for insurers and when big floods hit they had some many calls people were calling and saying my car is flooded and they were writing them off over the phone without inspection, just sending a cheque and getting them recovered, was boom time in the salvage industry!

tell me about it, wait for the news to give out a flood warning and then just ring and say you went to...
