Is there a difference in the heads from a 1.6 to a 1.4 8v?

Thanks

Yep, 1600 has deeper combustion chamber and inlet ports are varying shapes, valves are different sizes too, depending on head type.

the mpi heads have big valves as standard over the spi ones.

OK Thanks, will carry on my quest to find c14se heads/engines then :)

what are you aiming for with your engine? carb or efi?

1 single pierburg Carb which I have the head's will be rebuilt but need to be standard prior to that, the blocks can be nv or se.

Thanks

is this for a competition class then??

usually, people like the 1200st head cos it would give higher compression on a 1.4 or 1.6 bottom end, and carbs and manifolds are still about to suit the engine...

yes, Stock Rod.

1400/1600 mpi heads have bigger valves, but need skimming tons to get the compression, and then the port shape isn't right for the carb manifolds.. also, massive skimming will affect the cam timing, and i'm not sure stock rods allow vernier pulleys..

We Can use vernier pulley, and realign the inlet manifold they are allowed in the rules.

any chance of a link to the class rules??

interesting stuff... there is a lot of scope for parts bin raiding to get a decent engine, i assume you will start with a 1400 engine. as the 1300 are like hens teeth.

Yes 1400 block, we have 4 ready to race between 3 cars, but you can never have to many to play with ;-0

SE heads mean you need to run the High compression pistons too iirc. the limit on these is the use of "Standard" valve springs, 1300's can run double valve springs which allow higher RPM's.

We are always chasing the weakest part when we talk high RPM, normally the follower/rocker.
