Alternator has just been replaced, regulator and diode pack had blown and is now fixed. The battery light remains on though, alternator repairist-man-fixer (new addition to the dictionary there) said if this happens it would be the charge relay, so went down to motorfactors who called Vauxhall, who say a Nova TD charge relay does not exist, nor can I find one, unless it is in with the rest of them (it's normally elsewhere on cavs etc)

Voltages with engine off/running are normal (12.63, 14.5)

Any gen?

also just found out while trying to fit the exhaust, that I have the wrong one. Only "1.5D" listed in the catalogue at motor factors so forgetting about the N/A vans that are around I figured that must be the right one, also made more complicated by the fact I can't find the right one and the majority of sites are listing corsa ones as nova :tard:

Car is being a pain in general atm lol

Right bit more on this, the battery light comes on and off now with the other warning light on constantly. It stays off more if headlights/stereo etc is on, which leads me to believe the charge relay is stuck on, which would also agree with the way in which the alternator failed and overcharged the battery constantly, with one small issue... According to vauxhall, novas don't have a charge relay!

This makes me wonder how it turns the battery charge circuit on/off though, any gen?

the regulator in the back of the alternator...... but, as you say, it is charging..... so i reckon its an earth issue..or the alternator is still shagged.

Im wondering about this since its acting as if the relay is buggered, and the alternator centre said to change it if it acts up, but there is no relay in the car, so it should be on the alt somewhere. But if there is no relay in the car, and the alternator repair fella is unaware there was a charge relay on the alt and none in the car, it's gonna have the wrong parts on it surely?

is there a voltage regulator on the dash??? they used to go wrong on the old vauxhalls.

Not that I know of, bloody things just munched a glow plug anyway so this is an issue I can worry about much later tbh

been down memory lane.. i remembered my old isuzu astra mk3 had the same trouble.. alt light was on, yet everything seemed to run ok.. got the local auto electrics bloke to fit a new regulator / diode thingy & it was fine from then on.

They're both brand new lol They are what was repaired after it blew. I think I may have found the issue though, turns out my car had a replacement engine in 06 out of a corsa TD, so if the corsa alternator was used with the regulators etc off of the nova, the part numbers on the alt would have pointed to a corsa, which I believe had a charge relay?

has it ever worked properly??

Yeah it did before it blew/was repaired again, I'm wondering if the garage that did the change in 06 has used the regulators etc (inc relay) on the newer corsa alt, which has retained the part numbers and then been repaired with regulators and diodes that don't have a relay in them, because the corsa has one in the car. There's no way to tell really, the notes I have on the history are that badly written I had to read it a few times to realise it'd had the engine changed.
