cracking on with the project now and coming to do the brake pipes so i thought il start off with the back the original ones was not to bad but had been cut off at the master cylinder so i cut a bit moor off to put a piece in and when i had made the female part of the joint i noticed that the pipe had tawn any one got any clues:)

It depends on what kind of brake pipe flaring tool you're using, but it sounds like you might have used the wrong mandrels for the size of tube. Are you sure you've done it right?

Flaring existing steel pipes isn't very easy - probably one of the reasons why copper tubing is popular.
