Non Starting SR

I have just bought a 1.3SR, thats a non starter :? for ?40 :) . Now the bloke who i bought it off had the cooling fan rigged up so it was on when the ignition came on, when I asked why had he done this he said the water pumped had packed in when he bought it, Any ways he replaced the pump and was driving it for a few months, when he popped round one of his m8s and left the car tickingover, and then he said when he went to pull away it sounded like a tractor, he said it happened in an instant not gradually. what would u think cud be the problem, i reckon its the headgasket, cud anyone please shed some light on this. P.S. he said he hated novas :evil:

could well be

whup the head off and have a look inside

could be knackered valves or summat else like a warped head

what state are the plugs in
thermostat knackered?

me dad reckons it jupmed a cog on the cambelt cus the pump ceased :? wud this be srious, or wud just timing it up again getting it running?
