I’ve been on here a while now and have decided to start a build thread. Back in July I was looking for a first car and came across this, a 1992 Nova 1.2 Expression. It wasn’t too far from me so I went and had a look at it and then won it on eBay for £400. It’s in excellent condition; 63,000 miles with no rot or rust but just a little bash on the front wing/headlight.

Once I had picked it up and got it home I removed the wing to inspect the damage which didn’t actually turn out to be that bad, just the headlight panel and the bottom of the inner wing. I then went on a search for a genuine wing with no luck so got a pattern wing and surprisingly it fitted pretty well after about 4 hours of cutting and shutting.

Since then I have been at college so not had much time/money but have managed to collect and do a few things to the car.

·Clear rear lights (going to tint top half red)
·Strut brace front and rear (getting a rear strut brace welded in soon)
·White rear bumper
·Bucket seats and harnesses
·Aluminium petrol cap
·Revolution RFX alloys from my dad that need refurbing
· GSI Sideskirts
·60mm Suspension
·Rear mudflaps
·Momo race steering wheel

The other day I got some suede and recovered my front door cards. Only got pictures of one though. Going to get some plyboard tomorrow so going to make some rear cards up and cover them in suede aswell. Also got a sportex backbox on its way and a normal front bumper as I can't get hold of a GSI one and the original was painted black and looked crap. I also fitted my new fuel cap.

Not exactly looking to do a GSI rep it's just that I like the GSI sideskirts and front bumper. I'm looking to be a bit differant and put a GTE rear spoiler on it.

Its been like it since August! I just haven't had the money at the moment. I've had a word with one of my dad's friends about painting the wing and spoiler and he's supposed to be getting back to me soon.

Made some door handles up today. Think they look good and suit the cards well. I was also wondering if they did black window windows and door opening thing? :tard:

Not much of an update, got some bits from Colin (novarally). New grill as mine was battered up, black windows winders + handles, white wing mirrors and rear arch carpets.

lmao ive just had to double check i was looking at the right thread i was refering to page one being a mk2 nova then pagetwo has a mk1 lol
but then i read this bit:-
I am also thinking about changing the front end to a MK1 as I may be buying a white Nova for cheap. It's stolen recovered but doesn't look too bad. I am going to have a look at it before next week but it doesnt look too bad rust wise. Its a 1990 1.0l with 49,000 miles. Should hopefully get it for about £150.http://1.2.3.10/bmi/www.pngclub.com/forum/images/smilies/thumb.gif Here are the pictures of it
sorry for the confusion keep up the good work.

Tidy motor but think you'll have trouble with the numberplates though wit them not being the correct font and also being pressed, they will be fine for shows though.

I'll just keep the originals in the car and if the police pull me I'll just say I got them as a gift and didn't know if they were legal or not. :thumb:

No updates but I have got myself a brand new Magnex backbox for £80 posted which I don't think is bad.

My birthdays on the 16th Feb and i've got my first driving lesson then, so my plan is to get the nova all ready, MOT and tax at the end of the month so I can then have a few lessons in it.

Liam
12-02-11, 10:56 PM
Bit of a result today. Got the Magnex fitted, no pictures but will get some tomorrow. Sits nicely and looks really nice. I also got a phone call from an offroading friend asking if I could sort his website out as the bloke who was doing it f***ed off! He said in exchange for doing his website he would spray my Nova and sort it out for nothing as he owns his own bodyshop. I'm well pleased now :d. I'm also going with dad tomorrow to look at a couple of barns to rent so the Nova will finally be able to be stored in the dry while I sort everything out :thumb:

Liam
29-04-11, 06:10 PM
Not an update as such but nothing has happened to the nova over the last couple of months as I have been focusing on college work and driving lessons. I've done the blokes website so he has now said that he will sort out my Nova. It will be going over to his not next week but the week after.

There is also a change of plan, I really like the looks of the Mk1's as they are more of a "classic" so I've sourced the bits ready for paint. Hopefully i'm getting it painted red and getting the RFX's painted white! I've also bought a hella grill as I want it to be differant and retro.

Just a couple of pics I took yesterday as I started to get it ready for paint:

What ever happened with this Liam? Have you passed your test yet???

Get some updates up ;)

Liam
13-08-11, 10:54 AM
My test is booked for the 19th September and I am still waiting for it to get painted red which will hopefully be some time next week. I need to get it done by the time I pass my test as it's going to be my first car. No update as such but I have been collecting a few bits. I sold the bucket seats and bought some Recaro's:

http://i.ebayimg.com/00/$%28KGrHqYOKpEE3uNLdC8bBOHvyoNo7Q%7E%7E_35.JPG

Also bought an OMP deep dish suede steering wheel, quick release hub and electric windows and central locking.

Right now for some good news, the Nova's finally going in for paint on Friday! So hopefully it should be done within a week and then I can get some propper updates rather than these little pointless ones. I'll be working on a tight deadline to get it done as it's got to be done for when I pass my test (hopefully I do) on the 19th. I'll get pictures during paint as hopefully i'll be giving hand prepping.

Oh and the whole inside is getting done aswell, and i'm still trying to persuade Rob (the painter) to do the engine bay aswell as i'm getting it painted for FREE for doing his website.

Liam
08-09-11, 07:14 PM
Nova's off to get painted tomorrow, really excited as it's been months since it was supposed to happen. I am saw one of my dad's friends yesturday who said that as soon as the Nova's out of paint he would make and fit a rollcage for FREE aswell which is a propper result! Just a quick sneak peek pic taken the other day during the strip down:

Quite a bit of progress today. Went down to the paintshop today to give a hand on the Nova. Removed all the windows, trim etc and degreased the whole car ready for dent repairs/filler work tomorrow. Also test fitted the lovely Mk1 front end, even as it is, it looks 100% better than the Mk2 ;) My dad also stayed to lend a hand aswell.

There has been a change of plan with the colour and I am now not going with red. Rob (the painter) had been mixing up some paint for fun and I must say it looks amazing, so now the Nova is going that colour. I am not going to say what colour but will post some pictures when it's complete. All I can say is that it is not an original Vauxhall colour ;).

(sorry for crappy iPhone pictures)

Just one thing, don't fit a roll cage. If you are a new driver you wont have a hope in hell of insuring it.
Looking forward to seeing it in paint.

Change of plan again. Going back with red as I just really think Nova's look great red! Going back to the bodyshop tomorrow to carry on DA'ing then leaving it to Rob to do the dents and bits and hopefully it will painted Monday/Tuesday. My plan is to get it ready for the 1st October so I can then tax it from then etc.

Liam

Went to the bodyshop today and lent a hand. Got all the filler work done and it is now ready for primer which will be done tomorrow and then paint on Monday. I shall then be going down on Tuesday as I have got my driving test on Monday to get everything back on and back to the workshop to do the rest of bits ready for the 1st October. Oh and it's getting painted the same red as they use on the Royal Mail vans as they have lots of it at the bodyshop haha. Only got some pics of half way through but it's looking really good for itself for once!

Went down to the bodyshop today to find the Nova had been painted. So got most of the bits back on like glass, door handles, locks etc. The bumpers, skirts, spoiler and wheels are all getting painted gloss black which should look pretty cool. They should be done Friday so then I can get everything back together and ready for MOT and Tax.

Haven't update for a few days. Anyway, the bumpers have all been fitted and it's all pretty much back together now. It just needs the skirts and spoiler fitted which will be done next week hopefully. It went for it's MOT on Wednesday and passeed with no advisory's. Also started on the wheels yesturday. They seem to be coming up pretty well. I have decided to paint them anthracite with a silver lip. I'm getting a little impatient now as it's been 3 weeks since I passed my test and I still haven't got a car to drive yet, but hopefully it should be on the road late next week. Anyway, some pictures:

nice colour of red that. not fitting a mk1 rear bumper?

Liam
08-10-11, 12:03 PM
Was thinking about a Mk1 rear bumper but my exhaust wouldn't fit right then. I'm good friends with the painter anyway and I am thinking of getting a spare set of bumpers painted red so may get a Mk1 rear at the same time. It's a really nice red, it's Post Office red.

Right the time has now FINALLY come and I can't wait!! I'm picking the Nova up tomorrow and it'll be the first time i've ever drove it and the first time i've driven a car since passing my test over a month ago.

The wheels got painted the other week, I think it was a Daihatsu anthracite. They look the bollocks, and will look 10x better when it's been lowered.

Went Wednesday to fit and skirts and spoiler and it's now starting to look just how I wanted it too.

Still got a few bits left to do but atleast I can now drive it and get around.

Anyway, here's the pictures:

Cheers mate.

No updates, just been driving it around and enjoying it. I must say I find it more enjoyable to drive than the Hyundai i30 I was using for my driving lessons lol
Plan is to lower it on Saturday and sort a few little bits out on it. Will get some pictures on Satuday aswell of how it's looking.

At the moment 60mm but I may be getting some 80mm springs of a member on here. So i'll see what both look and feel like and go from there.

Liam
05-11-11, 08:14 PM
Right, got the suspension fitted and the Nova now looks 100% better. The black bits look better, the wheels look better, the whole car looks better!
(Not forgetting I done the whole thing in the pissing rain... Now that's dedication...)

I've also had a word with the painter and he's going to paint the other SR/GTE front bumper i've got without the holes and pins holding it on as I think it looks pretty sh*t. Also, the front number plate looks sh*t so when I get the other bumper painted i'll put a normal plate in the normal place. I'm also going to get him to do the rear grab handle gloss black as it looks out of place.

Southie, Im not keen on the sqaure number plate either. That's what I was going on about.

Cheers Iain

Mieran, The seats I believe are out of an Impreza Series Mcrae >>(LINK)<< (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&sugexp=kjrmc&cp=13&gs_id=1y&xhr=t&q=subaru+colin+mcrae+edition&safe=off&gs_sm=&gs_upl=&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.r_cp.,cf.osb&biw=1366&bih=597&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi#um=1&hl=en&safe=off&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=impreza+series+mcrae&oq=impreza+series+&aq=0S&aqi=g-S1g-mS1&aql=1&gs_sm=e&gs_upl=3213l4158l0l5339l7l6l0l0l0l0l319l1241l0.3.2 .1l6l0&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.,cf.osb&fp=50767110f2ea7834&biw=1366&bih=597) but then again they don't have the Mcrae lettering on them and the headrests are differant so I don't know really.

Right no big update's. Got some clear front indicators and got them fitted. Got a new stainless steel exhaust and fitted that and changed the front number plate today.

Also got a digidash and got that fitted but the speedo doesn't work. I think that it's the transducer that's packed up. I've had a look around and some people use the standard SPI transducer so I may try that out to see if it works.

Oh.. I also got the PNG CLUB sticker fitted and a Bubble Berry Magic Tree air freshener.

Liam
21-02-12, 11:13 PM
Cheers Gary, I was suprised when I turned up to buy them as I was expecting them to be in much worse condition than they are. The leather is really nice leather and is nice and plush. They also came with leather front and rear door cards which are also just as nice.

They were a spur of the moment purchase and cheap as well!

Fingers crossed, they may also be a big update in a couple of days (new heart) lol

Right, I've now acquired this little gem for the sum of £220! It's a cat C but all I want it for is the engine! It's a Corsa Sport with a X16XE which I'm going to be putting in the Nova in the next month or so. I will be breaking the whole car when I get it next week and hoefully make some money on the parts and get an engine and all the running gear for free.

I have been down the bodyshop all day rubbing down my long awaited GTE rear bumper and front bumper. Will be primered tomorrow and finished the middle of next week:

In a week or so it will be coming off the road and having the engine bay painted red and then the X16XE engine from the corsa will be making it's way in and hopefully it should all be back together for Billing.

Cheers guys!

I went down to Ashford yesterday to pick up another Cobra Monaco bucket seat off Adams Nova and ended up going home with a GSI dashboard (£20) and carbon fibre door cards (£10). I have been looking for a mint dashboard for ages so that was a bonus and because they were cheap I couldn't resist.

It's finally begun!

The Nova's insurance was swapped over yesterday and I am now the pround driver of this:

I shall be starting the conversion some time this week and hope to have it all back together for Billing. It's booked in to have the engine bay painted at the end of the month and I shall be getting the engine bay stitch welded before hand. I know I don't need to stitch weld the bay but as it's being painted I may aswell do it now for "when" I put an XE in it in the future.

I have had a change of plans with the car and I am going to run a stripped out interior. I have just bought a 6 point roll cage, bucket seats, carbon fibre door cards and I am on the lookout for some 3" harnesses and some sort of false floor.

I took the RFX's off the Nova as I am putting them on the Polo whilst the Nova's off the road so it is currently looking like this out on the road (propper sleeper look lol)

The strip down of the Corsa began today. Only managed to spend a couple of hours on it but managed to get most of the front end off. I also decided to put the wheels back on the Nova to see what they look like and WOW what a differance! I think I may need to lower a bit more now lol

Also getting another car was a good move as then you can take your time, ill be doing that also haha,

Righ then... The Corsa is all stripped and ready to just unbolt the engine and remove it...

...But I have changed my mind and have decided to go with the c20xe. Mainly due to dad saying that, what is the point in doing all this work when you will want a 2.0 in a couple of years which is true.

So, I have sourced a nice, looked after, someones pride and joy Calibra that I am going to look after and treasure! ;)lol which I shall hopefully be collecting next Wednesday!

Be surprised Edd, the corsas are quite high groups, and the Calibra isnt really.

But at your age, Id dig out the best part of £4000 to insure it legit.

Liam
20-06-12, 08:55 PM
Been busy the last week changing my mind and getting things done...

...After stripping the Corsa of it's engine in under 2 hours as the shell was being picked up, I have decided to stay with x16xe. This is mainly due to wanting the Nova ready for the summer and the x16xe conversion is much easier than a c20xe as it will just drop straight in etc.

I thought I had updated this but obviously not...

I wanted a 3" outward rolled exhaust but didn't want to spend money on a new one as I have recently bought a full Ashley system so it seemed a bit pointless. After a quick search on eBay I bought a 3" outward rolled tip. Once the engines in, GTE bumpers on etc i'll get the old tip cut off and the new one welded on exactly where/how I want it.

I would have liked to have got the engine out, but being on the road I don't think the neighbours would have been too happy!

The plan is to get the engine out this Saturday coming at my friends place who is also going to weld a cross in the roll cage and weld a rear strut brace in. I'll also get him to sort the little bit of rust out and possibly seam weld the bay incase of future plans!

Then, once the engine is out it's off to the paintshop to get the engine bay painted and a couple of bits touched up on the body. I've also kindly been given an early tailgate which has been delocked which I shall get painted whilst the Nova is there.

I also got a right bargain on eBay the other night. I was searching and noticed a 4-1 manifold that didn't have long left and was only on 99p with collection only. I contacted the seller and he said that he would post it. With a minutes or so left I put in a bid for £51 and won it for only £16!!! I then noticed the seller was from Guernsey and thought f**k, the postage is going to be alot but he came back with £25. So for £41 i've got myself a stainless steel 4-1 manifold for a 16xe!

It wasn't untill after I had won it that he quoted me £25. He said that he rang the post office up and that is what they quoted him. I had looked at couriers before he got back to me and they were charging £20-£25 so it sounds about right.

It was nice to meet you at Billing, well for the short time we were there lol

It was the locking Aerocatches I wanted and I got them cheap anyway so all's good!

I'm glad i'm sticking with the 16xe as well, I don't know what I was thinking when I was looking at Calibras :cuckoo:

I'll make sure I take lots of pictures and details during the conversion, it's just the wiring that's going to be the hardest part.

Looking good, when you aiming to have it done?

Well it's hopefully going for paint on the 23rd and will be there for a 2/3 weeks as it's mate's rates so will get done when he's free. So when the Nova's back from paint it should only take a couple of weekends to get the engine in and working so hopefully around the beginning of September.

The insurance is due on the Polo, and tax and MOT on the Nova at the beginning of October so It will probably be put back on the road for then. That gives me time to sort everything out properly and not have to rush things.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I started on a little something and it turned out pretty well I must say!

With the 16xe I wanted to keep the engine bay looking standard so I decided to try and make the Corsa airbox fit.

I put it up against the Nova SRi one I have to see how much cutting was needed (alot):

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/liampoulton/Liams%20Nova%20Build/IMG_1711.jpg

I then set about cutting it about:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/liampoulton/Liams%20Nova%20Build/IMG_1732.jpg

And sat in about the right place in the engine bay:

I then went down to Maplin and bought a £7 soldering iron and set about plastic welding the gaping hole I made (first time plastic welding and I think it turned out pretty well):

I have just got to weld a bit more here and there tomorrow then it should be done. I'm also thinking about rubbing it all down and painting it so it looks standard but then again, you won't see any of it so I may not...

Nice idea, but why not use the E16 box? Also if your keeping it, defo sand off and give it some satin black all over IMO.

I was bored so decided to just try and make the Corsa one fit but I also think the Nova one looks too small in the engine bay and with the Corsa one, it'll be a little differant.

Talk about being spoilt... lol

I decided that the 14" RFX's looked too small so decided I would try and find some 15" Comp MO5's and stumbled upon a set on eBay last night. They were at a start bid of £260 but I managed to get them for £240 outside of eBay. They are in mint condition with almost new tyres.

I got a cross put into the roll cage on Saturday by a good friend, but I would have liked the tops to have been a little higher (on the bend) and the bottoms a little lower, but oh well!

I shall be getting him to weld me in a rear strut brace when I can get the car over to his and also weld a couple of other bits.

I shall be getting the cage painted blue when the car goes in for paint so it should look pretty damn good.

Oh, these also arrived today :d ...

Cracking choice of alloys Liam, always wanted a set in that colour for my last Nova but never found any lol

You'll love your car even more when you've fit the x16xe in, the only issue might be setting the bodies up as I remember Novafusion on here buying a Nova saloon off Colin Smith that had a set fit to a C16xe and he'd failed to get it running properly.

Best of luck anyway, enjoying reading you build :)

If your painting the engine bay, might be worth stripping the seam sealer off round turrets, legs etc, mk2 love to hide rot under that sealer

Right, the time finally came today to get the engine out and then drop it off at the bodyshop.

Started at around 11:30 and by 11:35 it started pissing down! But a couple of hours later the engine was out and it was being loaded on the trailer ready to be taken down to get the engine bay painted. I've also got an early tailgate with smoothed lock being painted as well as a Trooper vent and the roll cage. Will be going down tomorrow to start prepping the bay...

Also the flocked parts look the business ;)

Liam

Cheers Connor.

Yes Southie, the engine bays being painted but me and Rob (the painter) thought that it may look good a light anthracite colour instead of red?

The flocked bits looks loads better in person, the finish and detail is perfect. I'm in the process of getting Prey to do something a little differant... ;)

Just got back from prepping the bay, I will upload pictures in a bit.

I think it will tie in well with track look with the cage, buckets etc. Plus, if I ever wanted to repaint the car another colour I can just leave the bay.

Just a quick one as I have been very, very busy. The engine bay was painted this afternoon and is currently drying in the oven overnight.

It's a dark anthracite with a gold speckle.

The underside of the bonnet and the other bits will be done tomorrow.

Managed to get a few bits done today.

The boot was prepped ready for paint and has now been primered. It needed a little bit of work as the right side corner had a little ding in it and the previous "de-locking" and "de-wipering" was very poor so these were sorted and it now looks good and just needs prepping before paint.

Thank you. The bumpers have already been painted black. They're the same as the ones already on the car except the rear is a GTE/SR type and the front is the same without the air holes and pins holding it on.

That finish on the engine bay is lush!

I can't take any credit for that except for the prep work. It's all down to the painter really and it looks so much better in real life when the gold/silver pearls reflect off the sun!

I've also cleaned the engine up and painted the block with red hammerite. I also got the rocker cover and inlet manifold painted. As it's a track inspired car I wanted the rocker cover to stand out and being the colour it now is I think it does!!! I also got the lettering on the manifold painted to match just to tie in the colour scheme.

I got a genuine Vauxhall cambelt kit cheap on eBay so I will get that fitted once I get my clutch and GSI flywheel. If all goes to plan, the engine will be going in on Thursday/Friday.

I've also decided that I am going to stay with the RFX's and sell the MO's as they just "make" the car and also make it look a little more old school.

Liam
13-10-12, 09:27 PM
Wahooooooooooooooooooooooooo, it runs and spits flames lol ......

As you can guess the engine is now in. It's in, runs and just needs a couple of minor details finishing.

Thursday was spent fitting a new cambelt, bottom pulley, alternator (making of alternator bracket), clutch, 8v flywheel and generally fitting everything back onto the engine.

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/liampoulton/IMG_2333.jpg

We then set about getting the engine into the bay without scratching the paint. Luckily this was a success and no harm was made to the paint.

We then got the rocker cover, inlet manifold and exhaust manifold fitted and it was then time to see if everything paid off.

At first it only wanted to fire for a very, very short amount of time but eventually we got it running and ticking over. None of the inlet manifold breathers were connected so it was running very rough.

Here's a short video of the first "proper" run. (It's very loud as there was no exhaust fitted just the manifold which resulted in flames from the manifold)

We then got most of the inlet breathers connected temporarily and it then ticked over and sounded very good!

We then set about finalising all of the wires but I never got a picture of the finished article.

As for it spitting flames, id check the crank pulley sensor bracket, there cast alloy and tend to snap (meaning the sensor will be a few degrees out) I fitted a x16xe in a corsa b earlyer this year, and if you reved it, let off, and reved again it would shoot a flame out the exhaust. It was the crank pulley sensor bracket)

Its fairly comming together now :D

Seeing as i've got a bit of spare time I best update this thread a little bit!

A couple of days after my last update I started to tidy up the wiring in the bay and ended with this:

I started to get the interior back together and started with the dashboard. I won a set of VDO guages cheap on eBay so fitted them in place of the stereo as you can never hear the stereo anyway lol

I then fitted most of my flocked bits that I had done by Prey. The quality of his work is just epic and makes the interior look soo much better:

A couple of days later I got the new front bumper fitted and started working on the engine bay again and got my modified Corsa airbox fitted. I trawled the scrapyards and managed to find a filter pipe from a 1.0 Corsa which was a perfect fit! All I had to do was drill a hole in it for the air temp sensor:

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/liampoulton/Liams%20Nova%20Build/IMG_2433.jpg

Then it was time to fit my newly painted early tailgate and Stikaflex my spoiler on. I'm glad I fitted the early boot as it improves the look of the car so much.

I also fitted my newly painted colour coded strut brace and temporarily fitted my washer bottle as it will be mounted in the scuttle area when I get the chance to do so.

That evening we started on the dreaded Aerocatches! First of all a rough shape was cut out using an air-saw and the remaining parts were trimmed using a dye grinder.

It was then time to get my number plates fitted. I decided to go for a standard sized front as the short one didn't look right but stayed with a short one on the back.

I then fitted my newly painted GTE rear bumper in place of the Mk2 one. I had to measure up and drill the holes for the side brackets and luckily I drilled them in the right place.

The Nova was then done at the paintshop and I was finally able to take it home! The seats that I put in were just temporary so once I got it home I made up some mounts to fit my Cobra Monaco's and got them fitted:

That's all of the updates up until last week.

Everything was working great with the car but there was still a slight problem with the engine that was there since it was put in. Whenever you revved it hard it would hesitate and would also hesitate in 2nd gear at around 2,500RPM. After changing the coolant temperature sensor, checking the timing and replacing the coil the problem was still there. Running out of ideas we checked the fuel filter and it was full of ****. After temporarily cleaning it out we put it back in and now it works perfectly without any hesitation atoll!

Also, on Monday I had to get recovered from work as the starter motor had given up! So off I went to the local scrap yard to find one. It was a very tight fit but we got it fitted and now the car runs perfect!

Lastly, I've put a thread in general chat about me and the Nova being in a TV show called Big Bad World. I received the phone call Wednesday asking if I could do filming Thursday and I said yes that's fine. But actually at that point the Nova was nowhere near ready as the starter motor was off the car and the hesitation was still there! But we managed to get everything sorted and even managed to get the Nova cleaned ready for it's TV debut.

http://i287.photobucket.com/albums/ll121/liampoulton/Liams%20Nova%20Build/DSC_0698.jpg

And here are a couple of pictures of it just before we started filming.

Cheers mate. We did have a ramp we could have used but it was easier to put it in from the top as it wasn't really that tight and only took 10 minutes or so.

Not an update but I decided I would fit my Comps that I bought the other month. I got one fitted and instantly removed it and put them up for sale as they do not suit the car one bit. I'm currently on the lookout for some Comp TH's or OZ rally wheels.

Not much of an update as nothings really happened! lol

I had decided to keep the MO's and get them sprayed a darker anthracite until these appeared on eBay for a very good price of £180. They're 15" OZ Rally wheels, 6J ET49 etc and were removed from a Nova rally car. I had been looking for a set of these for a long time and the only set I found where in Poland for £450!

I have now sold the MO's to a friend to fund the new wheels. I am getting conza123 to swap the tyres from the MO's onto these on Saturday and then I am getting them painted a dark anthracite on Wednesday hopefully!

Yesterday I fitted my carbon scuttle panel supplied by Chris at CMComposites. It really cleans up the bay nicely and looks great also!

I then fitted my flocked steering wheel which was done by Prey. It really goes with the rest of flocked stuff but not over the top. Plus it feels nice too when driving about.

Then today I decided to fit a red pinstripe to the bumpers just to see what it looks like. At first, I wasn't too sure about it but then it may just be because i'm too used to it how it is.

I also moved my washer bottle to the scuttle but didn't get any pictures.

Since looking at my engine bay for the past two days, i've decided to try and make it look really smart. So, i'm currently on the lookout for a Bailey header tank and red silicone hoses.

Once they were painted I thought they looked VERY nice but once fitted I lost all heart with them/the car! I really thought that they would suit but they really don't.

Now, because of this I really don't know which way to go wheel wise. I like the RFX's but I don't 'love' them, the 15" MO's didn't look right (I think it was the colour) and now the OZ's don't look right either.

I don't know whether to sell the OZ's on and get some more MO's. The other day I thought about 14's but they just aren't big enough. I need some help ideally lol lol

Enough about stupid gay wheels now and onto something more exciting, sort of lol. As above in my previous update, i've started ordering some silicone hoses. Luckily Roose sell hoses seperately so I can get the mix of Nova and Corsa hoses and also ordering seperately it feels cheaper!

So, firstly I ordered a Nova bottom hose and generic hoses for the header tank/inlet manifold etc. Over the next couple of weeks i'll order the rest and get them fitted once i've got them all.

Cheers guys. I did take a picture with one of the wheels fitted just before prepping them and thought that it looked too white. I really like the look of red Nova's on white wheels but I don't think it would suit mine as because the bumpers are black the wheels would just look out of place.

Here's the pictures anyway:

Cheers mate. The twin wiper is just temporary as the single wiper arm broke and I needed wipers ASAP. I've ordered a later 306 rear wiper (the aero type one) and will get the single wiper fitted again once the weather brightens up a bit!

On the subject of wheels I did a little Photoshop to see what 14" and 15" MO's would look like in white. I can't really make my mind up with them. It's got so bad that I was even contemplating going back to standard Nova alloys... Speedline Alessios lol lol

Here the Photoshops:

I think i'm going to try and get my 15" MO's back and get them painted the same colour as the RFX's. Then, if they don't suit it i'll just weigh the car in and buy something else lol

After some thinking and constantly having a peek at the Nova whenever I got the chance, I think that i'm going stay with the OZ's. The decider was when I got it cleaned the other day and it looked soo nice sat there.

What I don't know what to do now though is to get red stickers for the wheels or not. I would get some cheap ones off eBay to try but they're not very cheap! I might do a little Photoshop in a bit to see what they look like. I also need to try and get some kind of centre caps now as well.

Also, with the 195/50/15 tyres fitted they are always catching/scraping/digging the front arches so i'm looking at getting some 195/45/15 tyres and then selling the others on as they are all in good condition. I've been looking and have narrowed it down to Uniroyal Rainsport 2's (£190) and Toyo Proxes T1-R's (£210) which both have good reviews. I think that I'm slightly towards the T1-R's so i'll probably end up getting them.

As the rear is stripped it it sits a fair bit higher than '60mm' so I've got some 80mm rear springs which should bring the rear down to a decent height. I'm hoping for the arch to be level with the edge of the rim.

Anyway, here's some pictures I took earlier:

Cheers guys, your comments and opinions really help in trying to make my Nova a very nice example (hopefully). I've Photoshopped both red and white decals and I don't think that they really look right on the anthracite wheels. I think that i'll try and see if a local sign place can make up the decals cheapish and see what they look like in real life.

Yes, originally they would have had any one of the below I think. But I think the ones above look the best out of the lot.

I'm not too sure on stickers really. I think the wheels look pretty plain without them as theres just a large solid area but then I don't think it look right with stickers fitted. Hmmmmm....

Anyway, I received my T1R's today so will be getting Conza to fit them at his work on Saturday. We're also going to be fitting my 2.0 brakes, front ARB and rear 80mm springs. I've also ordered an ITG foam filter and red 45 degree hose to replace the airbox. I've also ordered a top tint sun strip which I will fit until I can afford to get a proper top tint screen. Hopefully that lot arrives tomorrow/Saturday so I can get it all fitted at once.

Well, me and Conza had a semi-successful day today. We got the Toyo's fitted and now they don't scrub the arches which is a relief! We also managed to get the -80 rear springs fitted which lowered the car a bit more so it fits pretty nice now. I didn't manage to get any pictures but will get some tomorrow. We also fitted my 256mm ATE brakes and EPC drilled and grooved discs. We didn't know which rotation they were so after looking on the internet we fitted them. After I got home I searched EPC discs and it turns out we fitted them the wrong way round. So now I've got to remove them and refit them the right way! Never mind...

We also went to fit my front anti roll bar to find out that I had been supplied with the wrong clamps. So now I'm on the lookout for some of the smaller ones.

Also, a couple of hours after fitting the tyres I went to go out in the Nova again to find that one of the rear tyres had deflated. Now, when I had the 195/50 tyres fitted I had the same problem with the tyre going down everyday on that same rim. Also, because the rims came off a Nova rally car they are not 100% straight. The wheel that keeps deflating is much, much worse than the rest and required 100g of weights to get it balanced right. I'm thinking this may be the problem with the tyres deflating so I've got to try and find another wheel (near impossible) or fit an inner tube which I don't really want to do.

Here's a couple of pictures of how the car sits now i've changed the rear from 60mm to 80mm. The height isn't perfect as I would ideally like the arch to be in line with the top of the rim but it's good enough!

Not an update, just a revision to a **** up! lol

On Saturday I managed to get the Nova on a ramp so I changed the disks around so they are now the right way!

My dad also managed to undo the screws for the dust cover so we removed that as well instead of having it cut out/away.

I also managed to get my wheels sorted. I took the wheel over to the bodyshop and prepped the cracked area and smeared lots of JB Weld over the inside and the outside of the cracked area of the wheel. It seems to have worked as no air is escaping which is a good thing!

I've also been bargain hunting again on eBay and managed to buy a pair of black Magnum bucket seats with side mounts for £120! They should hopefully arrive tomorrow so I'll get some pictures when they do.

I've also been thinking about removing the sideskirts as after looking at a few Nova's without them I think they look better. They're only screwed in from the bottom so won't be hard to remove but the passenger rear has some sealant holding it on! I don't know whether I can remove the skirt and sealant without taking the paint as well so I don't know what to do really!

Liam
12-02-13, 06:46 PM
I couldn't wait to get home and unwrap my seats and luckily they did not get damaged during posting! But, they are a bit more 'worn' than the pictures on eBay... They've got a couple of small holes and the foam has deformed a little. I'm going to be sending the seller a message after this as he didn't describe them as being in this condition.

I'm going to be keeping them no matter what as they are really nice/comfortable seats and are VERY lightweight. They are MAGNUM Motorsport carbon kevlar seats and are pretty old school (manufactured in 2001). I think they were pretty cheap at £120 for the pair too including the side mounts.

I've already contacted MAGNUM about new covers and have got to send them a couple of pictures to confirm they can supply them. Once they confirm they can do new covers I shall be getting the seat backs painted.
