I am after a garage or someone to do a 1.6 engine conversion for me in the herts/beds area. Loads of garages keep turning me down saying that it can't be done :x . Pissing me off at the moment. It has to be local as my car isn't really drivable. (i got a 1.2i at present)

to be honest i would love to, but i dont have half the right tools or the time. I am spending all of my days at the moment looking for a job (i have just finished my degree) and i want my car running before i find one.

4 hours mechanical, 1 electrical, 1 hour tidying things up. easy days work.

would probly run ok on ur spi pump aswell until u can get hold of a cav/vectra pump.

they might not wanna do it as the wiring is a bit of a bugger on those

loads of the places i have phoned tell me it can't be done :o . WTF??? I have even walked them through exactly what needs doing but the garages are telling me things like engine mounts are different, i will need a new radiator, my brakes wont be up to it (even though i have said they are from an astra gte). They just simply dont want to do it, so they are telling me lies  .

I agree with dicko, you only need basic stuff, sockets, screwdrivers, engine crane (or several strong mates) and haynes book. The bloke at the garage was giving you the brush off. the 1.6gte lump really is not that high tech, if the car is already off the road, then have a crack at it, there are enough of us in the forum to help out.......
