hi i dont no much about this and would like to no more and if this is something you can do to all engines and what you have todo to convert your engine to run a dry sump.

anyone on here use a dry sump ?

what do you use you car for? why do you think you will need a dry sump?

just a general question really but the nova is dropped rather heavily and i can see the sump meeting the road at somepoint, just wanted to read into this and see if doing this could save me future problems.

It can be an exspensive mod for little gain unless you are going to be using it on the track and even then you need decent tyres to cause problems that a decently baffled sump wont cope with

2k to dry sump an engine with tanks, hoses etc, unless as toymex has said track or competition where cars are either being throwing around or seeing mega revs its not needed.

how low is the car? as surely ex manifold would be near the floor too?

Simple way to prevent it is don't have the car stupidly low !!

Loads more fun, your car will handle better, be quicker thru the bends ect ... surely thats more fun than scraping your sump on the ground ?

indeed,

look at my old 5 door, 120+ mm into the weeds, never once hit the sump, for the total of 40miles it did lol

i followed a load of vw's on the A43 near silverstone last summer..... no cops & they were all doing 40mph, and 1" ground clearance....
i wasn't following them for long.....

i can't see the point of dry sumping unless the transmission is radically upgraded too, cos the clutch housing hangs down just as far.... now a btcc style gearbox is about £25k.....

alot of people dry sump there escorts, chevettes etc so they can move the engine further back and lower down for better weight distribution.

I agree with the guys a dry sump setup is too costly to warrent a ground -clearance issue..
Also as mentioned; check the exhaust manifold isnt the lowest part of the 'car' - it usually is..
The veedubbers have off-the-shelf shortened sumps available to them to get around this problem.
Here your best bet is to get another sump then send it off to get shortened slightly (especially if its alluminum).. or tackle it yourself if you wish..?
Dont take too much off though as you may start to starve the engine of oil; once you start messing with the capacity.
Also sort a sump-guard out - nothing big thick n heavy; just a thin sheet of ally again may help a bit..
This is what im doing at least, anyway.

Quite popular with the VW guys too. Friend has a caddy in which the sump is under an inch from the ground, he's got a sump guard from some company that makes them purposefully for low VW's, the sparks it makes when he's travelling on a dual carriageway and hits a bump are quite amusing.

Put it this way, Dans stupid wide arch toy on 8" wide slicks dosent need a dry sump (yet lol)

get it that low, you need some speed up to get over bumps and slide over them on a the sump gaurd FTW lol

problem was, its got round arches, you need to go 80+ to even make it look lowered lol
