I can't remember what language but Nova means "No Go" in one language and i heard this is why they changed the name to corsa

Lies!

You can't beat the Japs in the name game (eg: Nissan Homey). For home grown though Austin Avenger has always tickled me.

Doesnt "Pinto" mean "(small) mans tiddler" in spanish or something?

A good reason not to a rock a Ford.

Pinto doesn't have to translate into anything to justify not owning one.

Bloody boat anchors!

Possibly cheaper than an actualy boat anchor if you do actually want to anchor a boat mind.

and IT IS STILL WRONG!!!!!!

oops i forgot, its on the internet, so it must be right.......

it was always going to be called the vauxhall corsa, until toyota beat them to it in a uk only car, so they hastily changed the name for the uk only to nova, derived from the latin for NEW......

the chevy nova also meant NEW, because there was no gap in the letters to make it 2 words.....

just get used to it, it is known as common ignorance, and its the sort of thing that the QI tv show debunk all the time.....

it was probably dreamt up by a ford marketing man, and as for a sales fiasco, the chevy nova was a huge seller, and so was the vauxhall one too

I'm glad they had to call it Nova, corsa seems a more girly name to me - which suits the more rounded shape dissapointing sequel cars.

mowgli

by that reasoning, the mk2 should also be called a corsa

^ you need to upload them to somewhere like photobucket first ;)

The "No va" thing would be akin to associating "spigot" to our curly taled bacon-providers, as the word contains the letters "pig".

mowgli

fairlady was originally for a 2 seater, a bit like an mg & it was named after 'my fair lady' the film

the datsun cedric was named after the dashing prince in 'the princess bride', t think..
