hi, ive recently purchased a pair of weber 40s, and on inspection i seem to think they may be sport webers, altho they werent advertised as such and its of no consequence to me if they are or arent. however someone might be keen to have them for a sport with non genuine carbs so no harm in asking.

do sport webers have certain numbers on them? and ive heard mention of vacuum take offs, are these exclusive to the sport webers?

i'll not put up the markings on my carbs just yet, until i get an indication of whats what.

cheers

Found this for you.

Each Weber carb has a model number located on the cover - pukka Nova Sport carbs are numbered 40DCOE144 (driver's side carb) and 40DCOE143 (erm, the other one). Any Sport without these may be a Sport in name, but not in nature. Be sure to check 'em when buying, particularly second-hand carbs claimed to be from a Sport.

mine are 143 and 144 so that fits, and they seem to have a vacuum takeoff too. however ive never owned another set so i may be looking at something fairly normal.

and just by the way, they came off a 106 gti.

sport webers are the only ones to have a vacuum take off so it sounds like you have been lucky
