Started the car up after about 1 month of being sat in the garage due to snow and after about 20 mins the ecu was roasting, like hot potato style, couldn't touch it for long! This can't be regular running conditions surely? Don't have a habit of touching it so never noticed before! It's a DTA 48

Put an egg on it... this will dissipate the heat and give you a nice breakfast.

I wouldn't be surprised if it got warm, it's a little computer in a sealed box but hot hot sounds like somethings wrong, that's the reason xbox's break because they overheat and the soldered connections don't like it much. Not sure exactly how you'd get more power into it for it to overheat though, it's not like you can wire it up to 28v somehow.

It's your coil drivers - they'll pop shortly.

Which coil pack are you using? Is it a sagem by any chance?

When my coil pack died it toasted the ECU completely. Don't run it any more until you've sorted it as I hear DTA won't repair E48's anymore.

Shout if you need any more info or details to swap to the amplified coil pack (which I highly recommend you do!).
