Help me get H 16V TB runinng again.....?

Long story short, it needed a new interior loom. I eventually got round to transferring a Nova GSi xe engine, engine loom, and interior loom into the shell last year.

The engine started and ran fine int he Nova GSi.
It was removed from a Cavalier GSi and not wired by myself. Im a bit lost with this one..

The cavalier engine loom has been modified to accept the nova gsi plugs above the gearbox, but the wiring doesnt make sense.

Ive tried swapping coils and crank sensor but still NO SPARK!

The fuel pump primes on ignition.

The wiring pictured is as follows..
XE Loom > Nova Loom
Red > Green
Red/Blue > Red/Blue
Brown > Blue
Black > Black
Thick Red > Nothing
Brown/White > Nothing

Heres the smoothed and painted engine with a dirty old xe fitted for now..

I extended these wires up to meet by the wiper motor..

(The big red was a battery cable i used as an earth while fault finding)


Now i will state the car DID run in the nova GSi, even with the wierd brown > blue type wiring.. Im hoping i just need to connect the Thick red on the nova loom up to something to get it going again.

Not much help but the pump should not prime on ignition when the XE is fitted. Only does that with the original 1.6 fitted.

Looks like mine is wired up similar, mines a GTE to Cav XE loom

From the GTE plug, i made a loom up to go to the green dash plug

Is the brown wire from the nova loom to the coil ok?

Anyone got any ideas where the thick red wire should go to on the xe? It comes out of the car then stops at the plus.

Thick reds will always be battery 12v

Yeah it comes from inside the car then stops short at the plug before the engine?

I assume the engine look has is connected to the battery somewhere else then? Just a wired bolted straight to the 12v terminal?

yeah that wire was with the fuel pump relay part of the loom.

Have you got an earth strap on the engine/box somewhere?
Or from the starter mount to the batt neg terminal?

Have you got the ecu light wired up?

plenty of earth straps. i havnt got as far as stickin any dash back in yet. i dont think the ecu light was wired on the nova gsi donor though

My Cav loom had a seperate battery + which is why i haven't used the + from the GTE loom

Cavalier XE looms always had a thick red 12v wire that connected straight to the battery to power the ECU etc - Like Adam said - looks like yours isn't connected - but your fuel pump primes??? - Sounds confusing ??

Just had another quick look at the Pics

Is the Green Rev counter wire coming out of the Connecting plug wired up to a Thick red 12v? going into the engine loom

I'd be looking into that :thumb:

indeed it is. i made a table of which wire goes to what on page 1. trouble is, this used to start and run in the other car with this wiring config. ha.

Time to get your Multimeter out and start probing - checking perm lives and ign lives etc
