View Full Version : 1.2 Turbooo ?????
Hi just wondering,
If you can turbo a 1.2 engine. Obvs engine will need a lot of work done to it but would it be possible??
Everybody says just get bigger engine either 1.6 or redtop but really i just want a project for the summer. Duno if ever been done but will be a laugh and a one off project :)
Already got a 1.2 engine ready to be stripped, as a piston ring has gone on cylinder 1.
So got the engine, got the time to do it just... can be done, also what kind of bits would i need or go for? :)
cheers for looking dale.
possible yes
pointless yes
Anythings possible its just a question of skill time and money:thumb:
yh i know its a bit pointless but its just project :)
True what edd sais if your going for a small block turbo project use a 1600

technicalsteve did a diy budget 1.2 turbo
done a quick search sounds like a laugh but then again it is a 1.2 maybe i shud just look for a bigger engine, which will be loads more fun.

Don't waste your money fella.
Buy a 1600 or 2l.
Insurance will be a lot cheaper too.

Turbo a multipoint injection 1400 from a nova Sri
it already has coilpack, just short stroke it to lower the cr and wap a turbo on it, a T2 or similar, pikey the ecu to go to coldstart mode and probably get a good 120 bhp??

This, but spend money on a proper ECU and you could end up with quite a fruity motor :thumb:
Just the cost of a decent ecu and setup, that above is cheap to do, manifold and turbo being the most expensive,
there is only one problem with turbocharging,
the concept is very simple but the devil is in the details,

yoor best place to get inspiration is colin (novarally)'s 1.0 turbo hillclimber....... basically, it is a 1.2 sleeved down to a 1.0, then with a 1.6 gte head & injection system & a turbo & mappable ecu... then its had about 10 years development
somewhere around 200hp

lol if only it were as easy as it sounds....................
andy, 10 years development.....
considering complete low mileage 12st's can be had for about £30, and a top end off an e16se for about £40, its a good starting point...

Totally agree mike, but i think for some it would be a case of "all the gear but no idea"

thing about his whole engine is the fact of rules and restriction dictated the whole engine build,
so much easier to build with no restriction,
its the longest lasting high hp small block turbo i know of.
