View Full Version : Fast road 1600
what sort of power would you expect from a fast road gte/gsi engine
e.g. B+ head, big cam, twin 40's, would it be as fast as a valver?
I'm wondering because i'm going to have a new engine later this year and i want to decide what to go for
heres the options:
Tune my 1.4 to above spec,
do the same to a 1.6,
get a small block 16v
get a 2l 16v
origanaly i wanted a 1.6 16v but now i don't have a clue
cheers

it would not be as fast as the valver. would handle a wee bit better though!
it wouldn't be hard to match valver power benli doing all the above to a 1.6 8v.
another option would be a 1.6 16v with Mantzel box plus a few other little bits again matching valver power easily.
a mate of mine had a 1.6 gsi lump with a blydenstein b+ head, twin 40's a janspeed fourbranch and a powerflow exhaust and it put out 166.2 bhp at the flywheel! It used to do astra gte's.
there ya go benji!! valvers standard aren't the best option

lmfao    . sorry to seem rude but if i get somewhere around a TRUE 150/155 bhp with a decent wedge of torque to match i will be happy.
ps. mines a tiny bit more modded
the 1.6 with 40s would probably be much more fun and quicker depending on where u drive, if its all 0-60 and corners it would be beter than a valver :)

ive been to wales over this weekend
and the 1.6, 40s, B+ head, and 1600 block is a fantastic choice ive found.
as soon as you see the exit of the corner, start applying the power and there so quick out of the corners!!! as well as being fast around them in the first place, and by the time i get to the spped limit on the country road  or just over, its time for another corner anyway!
get a small block
i think when i spend some more cash on my engine in a couple of months im going to still do the same route, just take everything to its barebones, and rebore, and just make a proper job of it.
i really fancied a valver, mainly because of the fact that saying you've got a 2.0l 16v in your nova sounds better lhan a 1.6, no matter how tuned the 1.6 is. but recently i've gone off that idea and now i have't got a clue what i want
