Hi i have an sri with standard engine in at the moment but was thinking of maybe putting a gsi engine in it and would the loom/ wiring be the same as an sri or would it be a better idea to keep the sri engine and put a cam and twin 40's on it?

Worthwhile if you get the engine and ECU cheap. If your SRi has a coil pack rather than a dizzy then it's a straight swap. The ECU is the same but the chip inside is different (stands to reason as the map would be different).

Sorry mine has a dizzy. Am i right in thinking the looms and ecu positions are the same on a gsi as an sri?

The location of the ECU is the same on C16SE and C14SE, however the loom for the dizzy version is different to the coil pack. The GSi C16SE only ever came with a coilpack.

So if i can get 1 with loom as well would be best? Im guessing my tank and fuel pump will be ok or will i need a gsi 1?

Tank and pump are fine.

Yes with a loom would be what you *need* to do. The SRi has the ecu and car loom combined which makes it a right pain, not sure if the late GSi is the same but it might turn into a bit of an effort lol

Do it mate, there getting rare the C16se but you still see them in early mk3 astras every now and again.. astra loom unplugs so IIRC you can cut and shut it to suit... would even look like a C14se :)

Someone said the compression ratio is different on the astra version and I'm sure the astra map won't be as exciting but might be an easy way to score a cheap loom from a scrappy. Those 1.6 astras aren't exactly desirable lol

Oh and if you do swap, tell your insurance. Even if it does look like a C14 :thumb:

The Nova GSi is listed as 100Bhp isn't it?

Thought I'd seen plain old crappy mk3 astras with this engine? perhaps not.

There is a derivative in the early mk4 astra too - looks largely the same.
