We currently have a Suzuki Vitara that we want re-insuring as it is coming upto its renewal date. We are currently with Adrian flux and have been for a number of years this year they decided to increase this by £200 from last year so making it £674 fully comp. So i told the Mrs to give sky insurance a ring see if they could beat it especialy with the 20% discount we get being a PNG member.

so 10 minutes later we come away with a quote of £947.50 3rd party fire and theft as they wouldn't insure fully comp!

She also enquired about the Nova just to give us a ballpoint figure for when its on the road and the bloke said we aren't taking on any insurance on modified or imported cars due to high number of claims.

Anyone else know anyone we could try or is it a case of ringing around?

Try your cover from allianz im 20 and i got insured on a 1.2 merit for 500 fully comp, by far the cheapest i could find.

Its cos your from the North west, they struggle to quote/be competitive with them areas

Is the car modified?

The Vitara isn't but the Nova is yes.

Probably best not to stick with modified specialists then - Sky are pretty open about themselves not being the most competitive on standard cars.

Best bet is the likes of Admiral/elephant and jiggle the quote til you get the price you want. Thats what I usually do with non-modified vehicles.

so if sky aren't doing modified insurance, whos the best to go to now?? please dont say adrian flux lol

Re-read what Jack wrote silly, he was on about sky being pretty open about not being very good on non-modified vehicles:p

yeh it got me bit worried lol i find adrian flux quite expensive in comparison to sky, hope they havent stopped it!

We've ended up staying with Adrian flux. they lowered the premium by 100 quid from what the renewal was quoted so its still £100 more than last year but the mrs can now drive any car aslong as its insured which she couldn't do last time.

The mrs also got a quote of them for the nova with c16xe, lowered with big brakes and engine mods for £800 which i don't think is too bad at 23? Insurance seems to have gone silly this time around.

12-01-11, 10:41 PM
im 24 and got my corsa insured with sky with c20xe, big brakes, exhaust, suspension, transmission (ie f20 box) and wheels for £750, they reckoned it would be about 380-400 for renewal because im 25 this year

ste porter
12-01-11, 10:49 PM
my nova turbo at over 300bhp and nearly every box ticked on the mods form only cost me 990 quid when i was 21 so 800 for a 1.6 16v sounds dear

my green nova with the baby valver only cost me 550 to insure at 22!

As said, probably because he is from somewhere in the norf, where 95% of all cars are stolen, and the rest are owned by drug dealers.

You see this is what happens when you take what you see on a forum as gospel. Do you also read and believe everything written in the Daily Mail?

To clarify, we specialise in modified and import car insurance.

I cannot comment on the OP's post without his details unfortunately.

thanks for clarifying that, i wasnt taking it as gospel hence why i asked 'if' as i would of thought i'd have been sent a letter if you were no longer doing modified cars.

What details would you need?

But again it is probably because we are from up north. We had a quote last November from Flux for the Nova and that was £570 so thats gone up by £230 over the last couple of months.

Just your surname and postcode.

We have many happy 'Northerners' insured here.

Well Sturge's insurance is nearly up, he has a multi policy for 2 cars....pays about £600 fc.
I am paying £600 fc for my very thirsty piece of french poo.......so ideally we could do with just one policy for us 2 and 3/4 cars.
Thing is by the time he gets in from work they are shut, and as i am a dizzy mare and it would be a knocking bet i would get all the info wrong if i ring them...:d

Spud do you happen to know which night they are open later?

We have a few options available for multiple vehicle owning customers.. more than likely we would look at seperate polices.

If you PM me contact details I can arrange a call back up until 7.15pm Tuesdays and Thursdays but our lines do close at 6pm for incoming phone calls.

Thanks

Sky got me the cheapest price on two cars by a long way last year! and both cars are 100% bog std.

Lets hope its the same this year, although that does rely on mr biker admitting fault when told to lol

well i have to say after today im quite disappointed in sky.

they sent me my renewal through for the corsa but for some reason, despite all my mod declarations, they've wiped them all off so it now says its not been modified from the manufacturers specifications

also asked for a quote on a scooby wrx, to be told that they cant insure that car!! ridiculous for a modified specialist!!

That's because scoobies have the highest rate of claims among any car in the UK, they sponsor a scooby club iirc though, so it's mostly likely age or location in combination with the car?

Stuart
19-01-11, 08:57 PM
Be thankful we never entertained Chris Knott for an insurance sponsor lol....

On the VX forum they have said they can no longer insure anyone under 30 or over 50, you cant have any mods on the car at all and a few other stupid limitations. So for most folks on the forum I think they can quote for about 2% of the owners, and even then they are 50% more expensive than anyone else

its a no no on a scoobie till 25

im 25 this year though

yet i can get quotes off go compare for 1700 fully comp?!

im glad im not renewing my policy with them for the corsa though, thats wrong that they've wiped all my mods off and quoted me on a standard car, think i'll be going to adrian flux for a quote on a scooby

Hi Claire,

we'll be aware of the modifcation if these were previously disclosed, I'll PM you for your details to double check.

With regards to imprezas, we are very strict on our criteria on these to keep our book running well, they are an incredibly high risk car to insure so we have extra criteria over other vehicles, we'd need the drivers to be aged 25 or over, 3 years NCB, a years experience of driving an impreza or similar and the impreza to be kept kept off the road when parked at the home address.

Thanks
