I've been looking around at all the different paint options out there for decorating baby Burgos room and have gotten slightly confused by all the different options.

So some advice would be handy. We're looking for a paint that doesn't take a million coats, reasonably priced, doesn't fade uber quick and is a close colour match to what it says. Also a paint that isn't overly "fumey" would be great as i'll be the one painting.

Any advice is appreciated :thumb:

I used B&Q's own brand for our babys room. Matt finish. 2 colours used, biscuit for 2 walls and a babyish blue for the others. Not smelly at all. Covers good also.

He is right, but my thinking was a hallway is a high traffic area. Cheap paint means cheap cover up!!

Thats one of the things I was thinking. A baby isn't exactly going to be very clean and theres bound to be all sorts smeared on the walls and drawn on lol

You want one coat washable silk finish, its a bit dearer but very easy to paint and if any thing happens to end out on the wall you can wipe it off :)

Having a washable one would be a good idea probably. Do most places stock it? :)

I did ask the boil-ridden attendant and he said all paint designed for interiors were now safe for babies and pregnant women, good luck with the birth and have what ever they offer you for the pain, we were in and out in two hours but seeing my misses in agony was not nice

Thats good to know as that was one of my worries:) Thankyou and thankyou for the advice lol. I'm going to attempt to be brave and do it with as little pain relief as possible...but I certainly won't turn it down if I need it lol

I would definetly stray from the cheaper side of things. Doing the same room over and over again starts to get on your nerves lol

But again, await mikes comments as hes a man in the trade

I'm not really that fussed spending more on it as its the only room we're doing anyway as I want it to look nice. All the rooms have just been done so thankfully its not like we have all the rooms to do.

Don't bother with any of the DIY store stuff, it's crap. Get your self down your local Crown or Dulux trade centre and buy trade paint. They'll mix any colour you may have seen in B&Q or bought a match pot for. Should you decide to get vinyl or some sort of sheen (you'll regret it come re-paint time!) they can do this as well.

The paint is much much better, covers better and goes further. It can be diluted slightly too if you find it too thick without affecting coverage.

Edit: Just to add that it's no more expensive either I paid £23.50 for a colour mixed 5L tub of Crown trade matt. It was only available as a one coat special in the sheds at £35 for 5L.
