basically behind the old head unit were bare wires and no iso plug. went out and got the plug to solder onto the wires, fitted it but the head unit still doesn't work. i tryed the radio in my sr and it works fine. i've checked the power and i've got a constant 12v (red), and ignition 12v is sorted (brown) as is the earth (black). the speaker wires are all in so the only wire left which i think could be at fault is the blue wire which i think is power control?? where should the blue wire come from cos i think i'll run a new one incase theres any breaks in the old one......

the blue wire, isitreally thin? if it is, its prob the remote wire, which is for things like amplifiers. you basically connect em to the amp, so when you turn the headunit on, the amp turns on aswell, with out this the amp wouldnt turn on. As for your problem, erm.

the wiring harness on the stereo has a seperate blue for the amp which is kindly ladelled, the blue i'm on about comes from in the deep dark depths of the dashboard and i assumed it connected to the blue wire on the stereo side of the iso plug, everything else works so it must be this wire.........any1 know what it does?

it may be for the illumination.. some head units need a seperate power source for the lights and all to run off.. some just run from the constant 12V.. my pioneer head unit needed a seperate source for illumination.. just ran a feed from the lights in the dash from behind temp control.

My alpine headunits like that but doesnt have a blue wire? I got 2 earth wires, the normal one, and one actually off the headunit, and 2 live feeds. really i cnt c wot tht blue wire is other than a remote lead. :?

thats what i thought when i was doing it because the small light was flashing to say the faceplate was off (ignition off) so the constant 12v was working, but when the faceplate was put on and the ignition turned on there was nothing, no illumination so................................................ ...i put an ignition linked 12v to it an blew the fuse big time, smoke an all lol

Yeh dont go to halfords. My mate went there and they it cost him ?190 for headunit, amp, sub and 6*9 and it took them 3days!! I fitted all mine in about 2hours max. Is there 2 blue wires? One with a white strip?

MAYBE, the other wire is for a phone kit???????????? My headunit has a auto-lower-volume thing, so when the phone rings, the headunits volume goes down???
