My c16xe has started smoking alot when you full throttle it and when you let off at high revs and just tap the throttle, I guessing the piston rings have gone
If that's the case, when changing them do you need to get anything machined? Or can I just replace them at home on the drive in one day?

You realize its not a small job?

Depends how bad the bores are though. If the bores are ok then yes, Although while its apart you could do the shell bearings, or ARP's if you're planning power in the future.

I know it's not a small job, just was sure if needed to get parts sent away ect

if it needs honing, then you can do it on the drive, then you need oversize rings & then you have to gap them to suit.. thats old school....

it could be the valve seals? anyone know if they are bad for leaking on baby xe's???

i'd be looking at doing the valve seals first, and having a good look down the bores too.

If its under hard throttle and its more than a tiny bit of smoke, it wont be the valve stem seals.

Prob quicker/cheaper to buy a good engine off here :)

I would, again depending on funds, wack the engine out and do a complete overhaul on top and bottom end :d new everything :d

When the engine is cold there is alot but after that there is not so much

just mainly when you let off and tap the thottle

That deffo sounds like stem oil seals. They are prone on these engines too.

Stem seals I would say.

Anyways, leave this gay 1600 land, and come over to big blocks:)

£300, 156bhp.

I bought an X16XE with loom/ecu and manifold for £100, should have been £150 but only had £100 left.

Did the rings on my XE when it was having a re-build. Didn't think it was a bad job really. but the entire engine was out and stripped into components
