My sun roof opens 1 way but not the other. I can have it raised but the handle wont turn the other way to open slide it backwards.
I have took the mechanism apart and sprayed with wd40 but it still doesnt seem to want to budge.
Do you guys know what the problem might be?
Thanks.

broken tooth in the gears? if the mechamanism consists of gears i dont know. Mine is only a tilt sunroof. doesnt slide.

i would of though that if it worked 1 way it would the other cuz i think its on the same mechanism but you just turn the handle the opposite way to the tilt.
ummm, anyone else think they might be able to help?
Thanks

haven't bothered fixing it, too busy trying to sort out the gaylord head unit. plus i'm used to not having a sunroof from my sr so i just open the windows lol
which is another thing, the windows are electric and only work when the ignition is on meaning on a red hot day by the time i've got the car, got the disklock off and started the car i'm sweating my ass off. can u link the window swithces to constant live so i can roll em down as soon as i get in???
dave i put a disk lock on mine as well ive found its possible to insert the keys, get the window down, then whip out the keys and take the lock off
or just keep the door open until its off

I used to put my lock on at such an angle you couldn't sit in the drivers seat to take it on/off, which I thought might make it harder.
LOL Dave.gsi and Fester...I have exactly the same set up, LOL. It's a itch in the hot weather. At least the disklock keeps the steering wheels cool so you dont burn your hands when turning the wheel, lol.
As for the sunroof, sorry, but mine works fine  Not sure what to suggest other than ripping it all out and seeing if anything is stoping it from sliding back, like Rob said, check the runners?
One other thing, those of you with electric windows, are you buttons reversed?

yeh my buttons are reversed, like the up is the down and down is the up.
Also got another prob, I've got central locking so I was thinkin of having my car delocked but the other day i went to it pushed the button and the alarm and immobiliser bleeped but the doors didnt open! Then later on if was fine.
Has this happened to anyone?
Thanks
no mine arent reversed
was a while since i had them all out on SR, can you just the put the button back in the other way round

Probably, but it's not just that. The buttons are recessed at the bottom and embossed at the top, so it feels natural to press the recessed button to put the window down. I'll solder the wires on the other way round at some point.
Gazza14SR. Sounds like theres not enough power getting to the motor to pop the door locks. Try charging your battery over night. There might be something draining it in the evenings when not in use, but once you've driven it, it provides enough power to work the motors which will explain why it worked later in the day as apposed to when you first tried. De-locking will always cause you grief when it comes to a flat battery. The way I see it is de-locking is one less way of a theif to try and steal your car. If theres a situation where the battery fails, theres always the boot ;)
I bought a new battery from Halfords about 6-8 months ago. Last month I left my car alarmed for 2 weeks (unused), when I got back to it, I was expecting it to be dead, but it wasn't and the car started straight away :D

hmmmm and the magnet wont make it pertrude so much it is cnostantely touching head will it. even if it didnt, wot if it fell out, and u was doing 80mph, we all kno how heavey they r, it would be a repeat of that recent incident.
Right then.
The sunroof is a geared mechanism and can be adjusted. Slide back the inner panel and pull off the little black plastic strips, underneath there are 3 bolts each side. When closed the glass should be 1mm below the roof panel at the front and 1mm above the panel at the rear. This I found in the Astra Mk2 manual but can't find it in the Nova one :? Slacken off the bolts and move the glass to the correct attitude and tighten up the bolts. If this was jamming in the cartridge then it would only tilt before.
Central locking does this sometimes, it usually is the door catch mechanism getting stiff. If I leave mine a few days it is quite stiff as I lift the handle up. Take off the door cards and white grease the catches.
BTW if you have window winder handles, Machine Mart have a special tool for ?3 to get that damned spring clip out :D :D :D
